Wasteman: I recommend it with a major caveat

I knew nothing about this film when I went to see it, so I didn't know just how much violence was about to be portrayed on screen. And it's not sanitised Hollywood style, it's fierce: but not gratuitous. If that's not something you'll cope with, this film is not for you.

This film feels real. Like they have done their research thoroughly and understand what this life is. And in addition, it has a really compelling storyline. While the violence was initially shocking (but they do leave some to the imagination), it's very much part of the story. It explains the why of decisions that are made.

The main actors are superb. There's not one moment where it doesn't feel authentic.

'Enjoy' might not be the right word to use, but this is definitely a film worth watching.

I didn't find Wasteman any more violent than other prison dramas (Oz springs to mind), but it's gritty, extremely authentic and I thought it was superb. It did remind me a bit of Scum, which I haven't seen for many years.

I understand the filmmakers worked with a charity that supports young prison leavers to get the small details spot on, and while the leads are recognisable the other actors are incredibly convincing as fellow inmates.

Definitely recommend Smile

Had I known anything about it, I would have been more prepared for the violence - but I do know people that wouldn't cope with it, hence mentioning it.

But for everyone else, definitely worth watching. It should be required viewing for any young people that are in danger of heading down that path, honestly! (As well as anyone that enjoys a damn good drama)
