After the negativity in today’s press, and the opposing opinions on other posts, let’s have some positivity!
Let’s hold on to the massive congratulations that are due to Robert Aramayo, the cast, crew, director, producer and writer behind the incredible film, I Swear. This has to be one of the best films I have seen in a long time, the acting was superb and the tone of the story left me feeling genuinely emotional. The characters were so believable, with the relationship between John and Tommy (the incredible Peter Mullen), so heartwarming and also heartbreaking. I laughed, cried and wanted to watch it all over again the second it ended. Even my DH, who usually watches this kind of film under sufferance, has been transfixed - despite me insisting on watching for a second time.
Not only does the film convey the challenges someone with Tourette’s faces every single day in such a relatable way; it also restores my faith and hope in the kindness and empathy that all people possess when they are open to understanding what it is like to walk in someone else’s shoes.
The courage, tenacity and strength of character shown by John Davidson cannot be underestimated and I was left feeling we all have a duty to hear what he had to say. What an amazing man, prepared to put himself out there to improve the situation for others with Tourette’s by trying to educate and eradicate ignorance. It would be so easy for him to shy away from trying to make a difference. He has opened up his life from a young age, with the documentaries he has participated in, which has ultimately led to the production of this inspiring film.
truly humbled and grateful for all those trailblazers that stand up for others and share their really difficult experiences.
The film, and the man, have had such a big impact on me and I really hope that it leaves a lasting legacy.
