Any reactions to, or opinions of, Robert Duvall?

With the recent death of Robert Duvall, I'm seeing all kinds of posts on American forums, a flood of people voicing mostly one-liners about their sadness, or about how much they loved him, or how great his films are.

The thing is, these people have generally never mentioned him in the past, and the movies they're mentioned aren't movies that he starred in. Personally, I've just thought of him as a reliable, consistent actor, but one with limited range. Most of his roles have been a serious, laconic guy, never laughing, never crying.

I wondered if any of you have strong opinions.

"The Apostle" was pretty good, although the Billy Bob Thornton sub plot was a bit odd.

I would give it a 7 out of ten. Impressive that he wrote and directed it too.

I liked him but he was never a great actor - you need a big range to be that. His best performances were in The Apostle and To Kill a Mockingbird.

I loved him in Lonesome Dove and Crazy Heart. He mightn't have had the greatest range as an actor, but he chose films that suited him. His list of credits is amazing.
