I am not happy with what they did. Anyone else see the early preview who read the book?

Not seen the preview - just watched the trailer. What have they done to it?

And yes I read the book years ago and it was brilliant.

They’ve changed loads of stuff that didn’t need to be changed, added stuff and removed stuff.

Completely different ending and winner. ☹️

Yep. They made Pete McVries the winner, Garraty dies. Pete shoots the Major at the end.

It’s so frustrating that they can’t seem to make a decent King adaptation. Pet Sematary could have been great but they spoiled it (both times!).

Still looking forward to seeing this though - one of my favourite stories of his.

Saw it today - I thought it was alright. Surprised at the up close shootings though, so graphic - it would’ve been an 18 not long ago. Not the worst King adaptation.

As someone who has read the book and not watched the film (and now won’t watch the film).

Haven't read the book so am shocked to hear they actually changed the ending.

I was puzzled why the participants weren't aware of the consequence of being shot if it was televised each year- is this clearer in the book?

I thought the film was brilliant. It was continually engaging and the acting was brilliant.

But I am upset about the ending. Not so much that they changed it, but that what they changed it to was bad.

They also ruined Stebbins. He was supposed to be enigmatic and unbreakable. Giving him a cold made him suddenly fragile.

And why was Olsen married? Makes no sense.

Just seen it. Really enjoyed it. Tense but so sad in other parts. The ending felt a bit mehhh flat though. But reading they changed the original can see why it felt flat.

Strange that they changed it but still actually really enjoyed definitely surprised me at the end but agree with the ending sort of being nothingy.

I watched the film yesterday. (Haven't read the book.) The boys were aware of the consequences before signing up for the walk but I think the reality was still quite shocking for them.

Saw it last night, really surprised that they changed the ending!

I haven’t read the book for a very long time but if I remember correctly Ray won, but was basically mad at that point and so winning was pretty much worthless as he was hallucinating death and wanted to keep walking.

Yes, I saw the preview too and completely agree that the changes were disappointing. The book had such a haunting, slow-burn intensity that built up the tension beautifully, but the film seemed to lose a lot of that atmosphere.

I watched it weeks ago and was gutted they changed the ending. Also the actors they chose for some of the characters were all wrong. They completely ruined Stebbins. Read the book 20+ times so was excited they did a film but the book is still a million times better
