My questions

What was the connection between Hannah Waddingto’s character to the MI crew of 1996? Was she the daughter of one of the original team or was there no connection? If not why was the date so important?

Wasn’t it just far too long with lots of moody introspection too?

JaneJeffer · 25/05/2025 20:46

I took it as referring to something that they didn’t do during the war in Yugoslavia that could have prevented something bad from happening. I presume the president was in the military with her and also the submarine guy.

They chose that date for the plot point because it was the release date of the first film, that’s all

I love MI and want to see this, does Waddingham have a big part in it? I'm not a fan.

No it’s fairly minor but she’s very good

I feel like that whole chunk could've been cut so they'd go from the helicopter to the submarine. The fannying around on the aircraft carrier first just added to the length and earnestness/callbacks to the past, both of which were weaknesses. It badly needed cuts and the submarine section was more fun. I liked the film overall but it was way too long and needed a proper villain not just offscreen AI and very occasional visits from Gabriel with bogus motivation.

It’s the best part of 3 hours long, but having watched it yesterday it didn’t actually feel like it to me. The intro is rather long, but the pace picks up pretty quickly and I enjoyed it as a semi-mindless way of spending a windy Sunday afternoon!

Britpopbaby · 26/05/2025 20:01

Is Gabriel a new villain or was he in earlier films?

He was in Dead Reckoning. They had that scrap atop the train.

Britpopbaby · 27/05/2025 07:05

Yes but other than that how did they know each other?

I found it far too long , heavy on the special effects and each part was too stretched out ( thinking the underwater scenes here ) . All of us were glad once it finished and all of us preferred dead reckoning part 1 ( film 7 ).

Dolamroth · 28/05/2025 07:06

I liked the action scenes- the submarine, the aircraft fight etc but the talky scenes went on too long. It definitely wasn't as good as the first part.

I was however very happy they brought Donlow back and I loved his wife.

CloudPop · 28/05/2025 12:54

I thought it was fantastic. Really enjoyed it even if some bits were a bit preposterous !! (How did he get from the sea bed back to dry land just wearing swimming trunks?)

Cocolapew · 06/06/2025 22:32

I saw it today and really enjoyed it, I thought it was better than the last ine. I like the way there's a good cast of women in decent roles.

Sausagenbacon · 04/01/2026 16:27

Sorry to resurrect this, but we watched it last night, for my son, as he loved it. I found it utterly boring with loads of tedious exposition interspersed with ridiculous action scenes.
Anyway, how did Tom Cruise survive falling from a plane after his parachute caught fire?
