Has anyone watched the new Snow White yet?

I know that this film isn't getting the best reviews but I was wondering if anyone has been to it with their children? Did they enjoy it and were they entertained for the full run time?

I am concered because 'exposition heavy' and 'dull in places' have been mentioned.

I think it looks terrible from the trailer so I have no urge to see it.
The original animated one I have never liked. Obviously it was something special in 1937 but if I had to list the animated Disney films in a list of preference Snow White would waaaay down the bottom.
Have your children seen the original? Did they like it?

It's a good shout to watch the original first, I haven't seen it myself for years, so I think I'll do that.

Thanks.

I went yesterday … for the first half a hour I thought the evil Queen was Victoria Beckham🤣 . The film was ok lots and lots of singing.

Thanks. LOL at the VB comment!

(replied to an earlier thread about this so apologies if repeating myself)

Anyway, I went to see it with my 8 year old daughter last night and she loved it. I was pleasantly surprised as the trailer was awful, but the new angle on the Snow White backstory (giving her a bit more spine and purpose) was quite well done and I quite liked the new songs. Really didn't like Gal Gadot as the wicked queen - haven't seen her in anything else but thought her acting and singing were very poor and there was some link between her magical powers and being the fairest of them all that was a bit vague and underdeveloped.

If I was being nitpicky I'd say Disney are rehashing things a bit - the "prince" type character (who wasn't actually a prince) was very similar to Flynn Rider and there were strong similarities between Snow White and the live action updating of Jasmine. I do think they did that much more successfully in this than Aladdin though, and Rachel Zegler is very good. The dwarves were very similar to the original and I thought the CGI was really well done, although I seem to be in the minority there (Dopey was very cute and the relationship between him and Snow White was very sweet).

Overall I thought it was much better than expected and my 8 year old was very much entertained.

The reviews that I’ve seen are Ziegler is good (but it’s obvious that she was acting with green screen), Gadot is poor and details that kids may not care about like CGI dwarves not being a good choice. Kids are also unlikely to know what Ziegler has said in interviews about the animated movie so won’t care that she’s slagged off Disney.

Thank you both.

We went yesterday as a group of 4 adults, 5 children. Everyone enjoyed it. It was entertaining and moved along quickly with plenty of music.

I went this morning with my 8 year old. Given all the bad reviews and controversy I wasn't expecting much, but we actually both enjoyed it and my daughter loved it! Im generally a bit critical of disney messages and my daughter has never been into princesses , but there was some good / positive messages in this one! They have tried to remake it in a modern way so I think better to go without watching the original movie

Went with my 9 and 11 year olds who each took a friend. Really enjoyed it. Don't think too deeply. It's enjoyable and Rachel Zegler is great.

Recently seen it. Thought it was a bit rubbish really as per the reviews.
SPOILERS TO FOLLOW

Agree the queen's acting left much to be desired.

Didn't like the way Snow White is infantilised in dress, mannerisms, naivety, called "just a child" etc then goes on to have a romance with a bloke that acts much older. Felt yucky to be honest.

Songs were mostly meh and forgettable. Originals high ho and whistle whilst you work were alright though and I did quite like princess problems. A rare moment of humour.

Didn't know what to think of Dopey's character. Dopey and everyone laughing at him cos he can't speak, I can't remember the original one this but felt uncomfortable...

The rising up against the queen plotlines I quite liked and was very reminiscent of Wish. Just not as well done and with less catchy songs.

Thought the falling into the forest bit was slightly unnecessarily dark/scary for little viewers and also thought the skeleton in the prison scene same and unnecessary.

My 6.5yo I think would enjoy it though - but is sensitive and would probably be a bit spooked by the above two scenes. They are very short though so I think she'd manage with some reassurance.

As a child I had the animation on video (remember them) and loved it. Not sure why as the storyline is a bit rubbish really! Haven't seen it since childhood though so my recollection is very hazy of the film itself.

I just watched it and quite enjoyed it as light entertainment. There are a couple of scenes that younger children might find scary. I only found out it had bad reviews just before I went so wasn’t sure what to expect but I enjoyed the story line to this one and liked the back story between Snow White and the ‘prince’.

Overall I’d say it’s worth a watch especially with primary age children but not preschoolers.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/04/2025 12:27

I've just watched it alone 😂 and I liked it. The Evil Queen is less evil, more likely to throw a temper tantrum - she's definitely not sinister but I actually think it fit with the movie that was all quite twee.

Unlike the poster above I don't think there's any issues with the romance. The Evil Queen sees her as a child because she is to her but she's clearly an adult, holds he own against the bandits and the dwarves etc.

The dwarves, I get why they did it, I think real people would have been better but they did at least do it to jeep the images on point. They're not freaky etc as has been reported.

It was nice.
