Cinema Goers - How Often Do You Go?

I'm interested in levels of actual cinema going rather than anyone who mostly streams.

I'd say I usually go at least once a week, maybe twice, unless I've exhausted all the movies I want to see, and then have to have a week or two of drought before the next lot start.

This week is a major anomoly as I'm there five nights! I don't even watch the vast majority of blockbusters/Hollywood stuff.

Next week it's film club in a cinema further away, where once a month we gather to watch a foreign language film.

There a Japanese season coming soon so I'll probably book for a couple of those.

In a fortnight there's a 25 Anniversary screening of Chocolat, and later a 100 Anniversary screening of Phantom of the Opera!

Love going to my local cinema within walking distance. I go to afternoon matinees cos I'm retired.

Small art house cinema with all kinds of stuff. Recently saw the Bob Dylan one and before that the Bob Marley one.

Anora was on and it looked great so I hope it comes back now it's won so many oscars.

Mike Leigh's Hard Truths is on so will go to that next week.

I'll wait for the new Bridget Jones to come on tv. Solo mum myself so will be interesting how they play that. probably all Hollywood sugarcoated

We don't have childcare and have 2 DDs, 9 and 11. We therefore only go as a family, any grown up films me and DH want to watch have to be streamed at home. So we only see kids films at the cinema. So it depends when there is something that orth watching, I would say during winter it's once or twice a month, less in summer.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/03/2025 00:16

Me and dh love the cinema, we usually go about 2 or 3 times per month.

Hate watching films at home, too many distractions, phone will ring or one of the dc come in or someone at the door. I want to sit in the dark and focus on the film on a big screen.

I used to be a big cinema goer, but the cost of living has put paid to that. I go very rarely now. Maybe once or twice a year if that.

Laserwho · 14/03/2025 15:24

3 times last year. Twice so far this year. It depends what's on some years are better than others.

sakura06 · 15/03/2025 07:29

Before Covid, I went once a week. I feel like there are fewer films coming out now. Last year I had a bad run of people talking during the film which put me off. I have seen 4 films at the cinema this year.

Awardandpeace · 18/03/2025 17:58

I go as often as possible, depending on what’s on, at least once and sometimes twice a week. I prefer to watch films at the cinema, there are no distractions and I can really focus on the film. I live really close to a Cineworld and have unlimited which costs less than Netflix.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 18/03/2025 18:11

I mostly watch one genre so it's dictated by what's on. I went five times in October and zero in January.

VictoriusViking · 18/03/2025 18:21

I’d go more if our local cinema was cheaper. Cost £37 for 2tckts to see Bridget Jones at our nearest town ‘big cinema’ all the seats recline so it is a nice venue.

Costs less and really cheap bar at our local cinema but the seats aren’t very comfortable so there’s the trade off!

ladymammalade · 18/03/2025 18:23

Once a month when we get free sky cinema tickets

HorrorFan81 · 18/03/2025 18:26

It varies - sometimes I won't make it for a few months, other months I might go most weeks. I'd like to go more. I had a cineworld pass pre kids and went at least weekly, sometimes more. Love the cinema

ThatsNotMyTeen · 24/03/2025 23:59

Been 5 times this year so far:

a complete unknown
we live in time
Bridget jones
black bag
conclave

MsAmerica · 25/03/2025 00:47

Sadly, now I only go maybe once or twice a month, but there was a period in my life when I was going to an average of maybe five movies a week. That include movies at a museum.

I love that you go so often.

Becs258 · 24/05/2025 22:36

Probably 2-3 times a month. I’d like to go once a week, but circumstances and lack of films I actually want to watch make that unlikely. I have an Unlimited card, and it’s my escape from being a full time carer and home educator.

mum2jakie · 24/05/2025 22:44

Probably about 8 times per year. I go more often now that my kids are teenagers/young adults and we can enjoy watching the Marvel films together.

Hermiaxx · 24/05/2025 22:47

I try and go at least once a week, preferably twice! Have membership for Picturehouse and an independent so spoiled for choice! I love the cinema but try and go at quiet times (though the independent one is tiny and now rarely empty - though mostly a well behaved bunch!)

DelphiniumBlue · 24/05/2025 22:57

Maybe every 6-8 weeks? Depends what's on.

28Fluctuations · 24/05/2025 23:15

Maybe around 8 - 10 times a year?

shellyleppard · 24/05/2025 23:20

Last film I saw at the cinema was Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny. Would love to go more but the nearest one is 15 miles away. I don't drive so struggling to get around

MumChp · 24/05/2025 23:22

Hardly ever. Too expensive. Once or twice a year now.
We used to go quite often before we had 3rd child. It wasn't that expensive 15 years ago.

monktasmic · 25/05/2025 08:32

I have a movie pass for an arts. I go at least once a week, sometimes twice. I saw Marching Band on Thursday which was absolutely gorgeous- recommended.

MoistVonL · 25/05/2025 08:42

About 10 times a year. When I was in my 20s it was weekly, but life (and rising costs) got in the way.

My son has an Odeon pass and goes at least weekly.

Epli · 25/05/2025 22:25

It used to be close to once per week (I had Curzon & Odeon membership). Now I have a child it's more like 1-2/month (but I hope to go more often to mum & baby screenings when I am on mat leave). I go on my own, I love it. We also watch a lot at home but we have a projector and huge screen, so it's closer to a cinema experience in terms of quality of picture and sound.

SweetSound · 25/05/2025 23:17

We probably go about 5 or 6 times a year, it just depends what is on. I think this year we have only been to see Bridget Jones and the Bob Dylan one so far.

BrandyandGinger · 02/06/2025 22:47

About 15 to 20 times a year. I try to see as many of the Oscar nominated films as I can. I was in the cinema mood this weekend but there wasn't anything on locally that I was interested in.
