About a boy....would it work with the sexes reversed?

Ii was wondering if you reversed the sexes in about a boy whether you would have a film that could be made?

55 year old successful make television producer fancies 28 year old woman who works in a manual job. Do we shirk from the older make looking to date younger woman and there is an undercurrent of patriarchal lechery here? On the contrary the older woman looking to date younger men is an act of fun filled liberation and the woman's sexual attraction to the man a bit more allowable?I

Of course The film is all just good fun but I do wonder maybe the concept of the cougar is becoming a little dated?

I haven't seen it so may be missing your point but obviously there are a lot (the majority probably) of films where the romantic leads are an older man and younger woman.

Edit - sorry read your post again and don't understand your point at all!

I'm confused too, About a Boy is about a boy who befriends an adult male who after his mum tries to kill herself. Hugh Grant, Toni Colette and Hugh Grant.

Your post massively confused me because About a Boy is a completely different Hugh Grant film. I had to re read several times before it clicked.

Assuming you're talking about Bridget Jones Mad about the boy?

Thank you. I couldn't riddle that one out at all 😁

SPOILER ALERT in case anyone wants to see the film!!

In the film it is actually the younger man who pursues Bridget. When he meets her she is still off work so he doesn’t even know her role. It is meant to purely be about the physical and then emotional attraction. It is her that then ends the relationship because she realises he hasn’t lived his life yet. The way it is done it is a very different from the stereotypical older man in a position of power seeking out a younger woman.

You still have Hugh Grant’s character though who is clearly successful and he is dating a very young aspiring poet. Both are portrayed in the film and both come across very differently but not necessarily because of the power dynamics. Daniel is shown to be unfulfilled by the lack of meaningful relationships he has had by pursuing younger women.

I thought the film was great and I do think the genders could be reversed just as long it is also not done in a creepy and male dominance way.

The film based on the Nick Hornby book I don't think would be made now, and indeed I expect Nick Hornby would not write a novel like that were he 25 years younger and at the same point in his writing career.

It makes more sense if it's about the Bridget jones film!

I've noticed lately there's a couple of films with older woman younger man. Sandra bullock and channing Tatum did one. What was great was it wasn't even addressed.

Are we competing to see how many threads we can start about the same film now? Having two about each one is tiresome enough.

(I walked out of About A Boy, but I had a feeling the thread would be this).
