I know it's not a new film, but I watched this (for the 2nd time) last night, and loved it. Good music, great acting, and a brilliant script. The question is, what else would I enjoy. Any thoughts?

Given the Social Network is a sort of based on real life story, you might enjoy "I, Tonya". Margot Robbie is exceptional IMHO.

Other tech start up true story movies/series: Jobs, Steve Jobs, BlackBerry, WeCrashed, Tetris, Halt and catch fire (my fave of this list) and The Playlist come to mind,

It’s written by Aaron Sorkin. So I suggest looking at his IMDB page to see what else he wrote.

Moneyball and West Wing are my favourites. But there are other undiscovered gems in his filmography.

PermanentTemporary · 13/01/2025 19:49

The American President
Air
The Martian
GoodFellas
Memento

Molly's Game would be a good choice too I think.

Thanks all.
Last night I tried West Wing, as it was scripted by Sorkin, but, frankly, found it too much and gave up.

Quiz Show. Brilliant movie.

petedicks · 14/01/2025 11:50

It's very David fincher - the director. So try his other films.

Gone Girl - same music writers too.

Girl with the dragon tattoo.

Seven.

Others are online.

BobbyBiscuits · 14/01/2025 12:10

The Big Short
Dumb Money
The one about Ty beanie babies but I forgot the name...

I'm still traumatised by Seven so tread warily. Panic Room is good though it has a small cast, one location, and not a lot of dialogue.

I really enjoyed Can You Ever Forgive Me? which is the Melissa McCarthy film for folk who don't like her usual persona.

I came to say Dumb Money! My current favourite film (and I'm really not a based-on-true-events kind of person!)

BobbyBiscuits · 14/01/2025 13:03

@LittleRedRidingHoody thanks. yeah, it's great isn't it.

Not really in the same genre but I'd also strongly recommend The Substance. Obviously it is gory, but funny and dramatic as well..

I love this film.

If you haven't seen it yet I think you will enjoy The Holdovers - it is heartwarming, emotionally intelligent, surprising and funny.

unmemorableusername · 16/01/2025 09:01

Rogue Trader

Sausagenbacon · 16/01/2025 09:50

I'm afraid I found the Holdovers very overrated 😕

"A Few Good Men", by the same writer.

MayfairRose · 29/01/2025 16:20

I see people mentioned Gone Girl and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But I'd give it a go. Similar vibes
