Madame Web
Morbius

I was watching some Kermode and Mayo vids on You Tube and Madame Web was mentioned as being in quite a few people’s worst films. I really enjoyed it!

I really liked Gothika, it was widely panned.

Newgolddream70 · 05/01/2025 21:10

I'm going to get panned for saying this but I like Swept Away - the one with Madonna.

mamaduckbone · 05/01/2025 21:35

Mortal engines - it was ds1's favourite book but we didn't go to see the film at the cinema as it was panned. Watched it when it came out on Amazon and we both loved it. Would have been amazing on the big screen.

I loved Joker: Folie À Deux and that got a pretty good pasting, although I know others here liked it too (and so did Mark and Simon).

I still have a feeling that history will be kinder to it Smile

I was the only person who liked The Rise of Skywalker, apparently.

I quite liked Cats

Going back a few years now, but I really loved A. I. Artificial Intelligence (2001),:although it was panned by critics. You know, with a young Haley Joel Osment as the little robot boy who wants to be real.

CrossPurposes · 08/01/2025 17:34

The Dressmaker with Kate Winslet and Judy Davis. For example, Peter Bradshaw gave it a snooty one star but its rating on IMDb and Amazon suggest I wasn't the one who thought it was blooming marvellous.

WhereYouLeftIt · 08/01/2025 18:10

I liked eXistenZ, a sci-fi film with Jude Law and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Crashed and burned at the box office apparently, but I liked it.

Echobelly · 08/01/2025 18:13

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen I loved though everyone else thought it was an indulgent mess.

Cloud Atlas - just not sure the world was ready for it, but DH and I love it.

Axelotl · 08/01/2025 20:23

The Greatest Showman was critically panned and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As did a lot of other ppl.

ohyesido · 08/01/2025 20:29

I just watched The Hateful Eight, loved it especially Channing Tatum

Axelotl · 08/01/2025 20:35

My New York Year , another 1 star review from Peter Bradshaw, I thought it was v good.

Puppupandaway · 08/01/2025 20:44

I watched Last Christmas with Emilia Clarke a month ago.I really enjoyed it but when I looked at reviews everyone really slated it!

I also love Holiday on The Buses!! Universally hated by all film critics but I've watched it since I was a kid and love it, even the cringy bits.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 08/01/2025 20:49

8MM. I thought Nicolas Cage played an amazing character - so vunerable and raw.

It was totally panned by movie critics.

I don't think Jennifer's Body got great ratings either but I absolutely love it!

Yes!

Waterworld
Romeo Must Die

Michellesbackbrace · 08/01/2025 21:02

One of my favourite films ever is Romancing the Stone and I watch it at least once a year - I’ve no idea if it was panned when it came out but it’s pretty corny and when I put it on (as I did the other day for my annual viewing) dh sits rolling his eyes and laughing scornfully throughout.

I must admit I do die laughing at the dance scene.

I read a thread of “worst films of 2024” the other day and Alien Romulus was mentioned. I absolutely loved it! I am a big fan of the Alien films in general though.

Michellesbackbrace · 08/01/2025 21:04

Cloud Atlas - just not sure the world was ready for it, but DH and I love it.

I thought cloud atlas was really thought provoking- one of those films you don’t forget. And Hugh Grant was really impressive in it I thought - I’d always thought he was a bit crap before seeing him in this.
