I'm likely to spend a couple of hours on my own on Christmas Day afternoon so I'm planning on watching a move.

Something heartwarming or a kids movie, I love Harry Potter, downton abbey.

BBC is showing the new Wallace and Gromit film on Christmas Day.

bridesmaid1024 · 23/11/2024 20:27

I always go for "The Holiday" "Elf" or "The Grinch" .... or this year I'll try some cheesy one I'll find under the Christmas section on Netflix lol

Circlingthesun · 23/11/2024 20:29

I like Wallace and Grommitt so I'll check the times out

We are out Christmas Day but in the evening when we get home we always watch Poirots Christmas .

RainbowZebraWarrior · 23/11/2024 20:32

The Holiday, Home Alone or Love Actually.

Love them all. Love Actuwlly hasn't actually aged very well and is naff, but I still love it. I watched The Holiday when I was in Sydney one Christmas, so I have fond memories.

The Bishop's Wife. Or It's a Wonderful Life.

My two favourites.

Great film on Netflix called click and collect. Really heart warming and funny. Me and the kids loved it 🎅🏻 and not forgetting Christmas chronicles for pure Santa joy.

Any of these

I’ve added the Holdovers to Christmas films - don’t think
it was released in time for last Christmas.
It’s such a feel good film and the cinematography was beautiful.

Home Alone is my favourite Christmas movie...probably know it word for word 🎄🎄🎄

This is my new favourite film. It's sublime.

Strictly speaking thanksgiving 😁. It was on on Film 4 last Thursday; thanksgiving! It still makes me laugh despite multiple viewings.

MouldyCandy · 01/12/2024 01:24

Arthur Christmas.

If you like ancient old black & white films (just me?) I like The Holly and the Ivy for Christmas Day evening.

And one of the old (in colour) Hollywood musicals Singin in the Rain, Oklahoma, Calamity Jane etc. Carousel will break your heart though. 😞

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 01/12/2024 01:45

Paddington 1 and 2!

sadmillenial · 01/12/2024 03:22

its a wonderful life, paddington 1/2, holdovers, all awesome?

I have my own tradition where I watch Jaws and Wall-E on christmas eve/day. Not "christmassy" i know - but two films that i love and remind me why i LOVE films.

sashh · 01/12/2024 04:29

A matter of life and death, David Niven made in the 1940s. It's part colour, part black and white.

Isometimeswonder · 01/12/2024 04:48

Nightmare Before Christmas. Love it

ohfook · 01/12/2024 06:00

The family stone

Spagettifunctional · 01/12/2024 06:24

I love The Holiday
or the Muppets Christmas Carol

Justleaveitblankthen · 01/12/2024 14:57

I love Scrooge. The Alastair Sim, 1951 version. Absolutely uncomparable 😍
Also love him in 'An Inspector Calls'. Watch both every Xmas.

IAWL is so bloody odd! I don't get all the love for it.

Davros · 05/01/2025 19:30

I strongly recommend The Man Who Invented Christmas with Dan Stevens playing Charles Dickens, it's brilliant.
I always loved The Holiday but tried watching it this year and found it SO awful, mostly due to the Kate Winslett character. I think I used to be able to overlook what a doormat she is but I just can't any more.
