Obviously depends on the child but is anyone planning on taking young children?

I just saw a TikTok saying the book is totally inappropriate for kids and teens, I don't know what it's about but a lot of the comments were saying it absolutely isn't geared towards children. Maybe the film is a watered down version of the book idk

Heartofglass12345 · 21/11/2024 10:33

I haven't seen the film, but I've seen the stage show.
I've read the plot of the book and I would say that the stage show is definitely a watered-down version of the book.
I'm not sure if a child would really understand it but they might still like it because of the singing etc.

LilacLilyBird · 21/11/2024 10:34

I'd wait and take them to something ends up less of course you're taking them with you because you want to see it in which case crack on and take them

LilacLilyBird · 21/11/2024 10:35

*else unless

MulderitsmeX · 21/11/2024 21:17

The book is not for children AT ALL (for e.g. tiger sex)

The musical has no rude bits and from what I've seen the movie is the same, it might be scary but it's very different from the book.

Ok thanks maybe I will go without them and take them to moana as a compromise !

Depending on when you were thinking of going I'm taking DS aged 5 this weekend if you want I'm happy to update here? I've taken him to see it on stage (it's my favourite and he's grown up listening to the music) and he loved it so hoping it'll be okay!

I’d appreciate an update @LittleRedRidingHoody that would be really useful.

My kids have had to endure me singing that soundtrack constantly since they were in the womb so they want to see it to understand what on earth I've been going on about.

The stage show is perfectly child friendly. I started reading the book and that is more adult. The film is a PG so I feel comfortable bringing them and they've seen the Wizard of Oz so I think they'll understand the themes and references.

Generally they are happy with anything in the cinema because popcorn is involved. DS5 and DS8

There are a couple of pretty scary parts involving the monkeys. I have a 5 year old I was considering taking but I have decided she is too young. I jumped at one part 🤣 I would take her to the stage show though.

Gymmum82 · 23/11/2024 12:41

The stage show do not permit under 7s. So I guess 7 would be the lower limit. I’m taking my 8 and 10 yr olds today

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 23/11/2024 12:43

My 7yo loved it, the monkey but might be a little scary for younger/easily frightened. It was brilliant

Lifeglowup · 23/11/2024 12:44

What rating is it?

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 23/11/2024 13:37

PG

Gymmum82 · 23/11/2024 19:38

The monkey bit was quite scary. A small girl about 5 or 6 screamed in that part

fourelementary · 23/11/2024 21:57

No. It’s far too long imo for that age.

NowStartAgain · 23/11/2024 22:01

8 yr old loved it. It’s a little long but the film is PG. We had a fun afternoon.

PastaAndProse · 23/11/2024 22:04

Been tonight with DS(5). He loved it. But he's a fairly robust/not easily scared or upset 5yo.

lavenderlou · 23/11/2024 22:08

It's really long and I would say wouldn't hold the attention of many under-8s. There were some in the cinema I was at who left halfway through.

Cherrypie32 · 23/11/2024 23:35

Too long imo. My 14 year old daughter got bored and she loves the stage version. It’s quite laboured. I was relieved it ended at first act. I thought it was going to go on another 2 1/2 hours!

StarDolphins · 23/11/2024 23:38

I think maybe suggest Paddington in Peru?😆

omg it’s totally fine! I took my kids today it was brilliant.

Threeandahalf · 23/11/2024 23:52

I was afraid of the monkeys! My six year old would be terrified.

Username197 · 24/11/2024 21:38

Took an 8 year old who loved it and didn’t move! Nothing scary or inappropriate for a 5 year old but my only reservation would be it is LONG. About 2hr 40 I think it’s advertised as. We were in there for over 3 hours with trailers. I guess it depends on their attention span! I struggled, 8YO did not 😂
