Has anyone been to see this yet? The trailer looked great but the reviews seem a bit mixed so just wondering if it's worth watching.

I've just been to see it and thought it was absolutely brilliant. I love Gaga, she was great and Joaquin Phoenix is fantastic. Loved the first one, loved the second one even more. Go!

I saw it today and enjoyed it. There's a lot of courtroom drama and a lot of singing! Lady Gaga is very good.

Loved it for the most part. Would have been better with original music that helped progress the plot like in most other musicals / by the end I was a bit bored of the musical scenes. But incredible acting.

I went tonight and was quite disappointed, it feels like it doesn't ever really get off the ground. Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga are amazing and it's well worth a watch but for me it was missing the edge and the excitement of the first film.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 04/10/2024 23:23

It's worth seeing but I didn't think it was a patch on the first one. I think they should've left it alone - not sure what this really added to the story. Joaquin was good though and Gaga was ok.

Thanks everyone, the comments are favourable enough to persuade me to go :)

Went to see this - great acting and poor storyline/writing in my opinion.
Much prefer the first film!

I saw it yesterday and loved it, but it's a very odd film and there were definitely bits that didn't work - I can see why it's had a pasting from some and I watched a fair bit of it like this Confused. It was much darker than the first film, and that bar was set pretty high already.

Joaquin Phoenix is really incredible. I came home and watched the first one again as a prequel, which is a definite recommendation if anybody can be bothered 👍

Ah that explains why my husband thought it wasn't as good as the first!

I can't make my mind up whether to go see this. It's had the worst reviews on Rotten Tomatoes that I've ever seen!

Mygreyhair · 07/10/2024 10:03

Oh I loved it. Really edgy, uncomfortable viewing. Phoenix is INCREDIBLE.
@SocksAndTheCity I also came home and watched the first one again. I wish I’d watched it before I went as I had forgotten a lot of the story line.

That had been my original plan,@Mygreyhair but I just didn't have time before I went! I plan to dig out Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum when I get a minute too, since I have both knocking around somewhere.

I haven't looked at RT but I've seen some shockingly bad reviews - IIRC the first one got a kicking too at the start so it's maybe less surprising. I'll likely go again at the weekend 😊

MadisonAvenue · 09/10/2024 23:58

We’re just home from seeing it. Didn’t expect much after reading the reviews and hearing what our son had to say about it after seeing it at the weekend but we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Very edgy, and disturbing and ultimately sad.
Joaquin Phoenix was superb again, as was Lady Gaga.

RubyRooRed · 10/10/2024 00:01

Apparently it’s on track to lose millions of dollars
It needs to make 450 million dollars worldwide to break even
it made less than 40 million on opening weekend

Mirren22 · 12/10/2024 14:01

I loved it but came away comparing it to the first one and didn't have a the same shock / surprise feel to it. I remember feeling impacted by the first one for some time after, particularly the reality that there was no hope or help for those mentally ill and just general feeling of hopelessness whereas the second felt more action like. Brilliant though especially the acting
