I like that even the president of France weighed in. I also like his being tagged as a " cat-like global sex symbol." I've only seen about a half-dozen of his movies, mostly during a mid-century French gangster series. And Mr. Klein.

Interesting bloke - and not the nicest!

I always found it funny that he was described as one do the most beautiful men in the world. He did nothing for me but I enjoyed some of his films.

Mr Klein is brilliant and love Plein Soleil (my god that face).

Weirdly feel very sad he's died because let's face it, what a twat.

I'd agree, @Zonder, that I wouldn't rate him as one of the most beautiful, but I think there was something compelling about his appearance and his ... insouciance, for lack of a better word.

I haven't seen 'Monsieur Klein' nor 'Plein Soleil', am looking forward to seeing them.

Love Plein Soleil. Didn’t know he was an arsehole, though. What a shame! Not my type but a beautiful face.

Surely you don't expect all actors, novelists, chefs, et al. to be angelic?

Of course not. My post didn’t in any way imply that, so I’m not sure why you’ve inferred it.

Sad news. Plein Soleil was an excellent film. Alain was a wonderful Tom Ripley character.

I haven't actually seen Monsieur Klein, having checked, but I'll have a look for that now.

Of course no one expects actors to be angelic but come on, the guy had a really terrible side to him. His far right sympathies and friendship with Jean-Marie Le Pen was one thing, which is often completely excused by his work on Mr Klein, including by my lefty French Jewish mother. But his treatment of his son Ari Boulogne was next level disgusting.
