This comes out in a few days - some people might have seen it already? Looking forward to the discussion on this.

OP posts:

saw this - enjoyed it very much. loved the ending.

Gemstonebeach · 10/03/2024 06:08

Hated it. Got very over watching people pretend to have sex.

JamSandle · 10/03/2024 07:01

I couldn't watch all the sex to be honest. If they release a cut version I'd give it a go.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/03/2024 16:36

it was just vigorous jumping Wink

lavagal · 10/03/2024 16:46

Deciding if to watch tonight - shall I give it a go

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/03/2024 16:47

oh i would!

mum2jakie · 10/03/2024 21:41

It's streaming on Disney Plus now. Might be next weekend's viewing.

I take it back. The sex wasn't as big a part of it as I thought. And I find it a truly touching film.

UpsideLeft · 11/03/2024 21:44

Watching it right now and I'm halfway through and I'm loving it so far

I was only going to watch a few mins to see if I liked it and 2 mins in i knew I'd love it

UpsideLeft · 12/03/2024 09:48

I thoroughly enjoyed it

Portakalkedi · 12/03/2024 14:15

I had previously read the book and regretted wasting my time on it when I got to the end. Sawit appear on Disney this week and having heard so much hype about how marvellous it is, watched it and again was sorry I bothered. Appalling, with myriad inexplicable changes. Liked the cinematography and the music but that was all.

Portakalkedi · 12/03/2024 14:17

Forgot to add, surely Mark Ruffalo must be in line for the Dick van Dyke worst English accent award!

Flavabobble · 12/03/2024 14:54

20 minutes in, I read a review saying it was reminiscent of ' a bunch of drama students given too big a budget' and so far that's pretty accurate.
Director: give me toddler tantrum Bella. Now truculence, you're just learning to walk, now look gormless. Do yourself with a cucumber etc etc.

Frankly, so far, I think it's absolute bobbins.

30 minutes in, I don't hate myself enough right now to carry on.

I thoroughly enjoyed it

I really abhorred its politics but loved its aesthetic. The world created onscreen was magical and I loved being immersed in it but I absolutely hated the idea of a woman being implanted with a baby’s brain. The dick (haha typo/Freudian slip. I meant to say sick) thinking behind that concept is imo deplorable.

i couldn’t get past the fact that i was being made to watch a woman who is essentially a toddler, masturbating. Eurgh!

UpsideLeft · 13/03/2024 23:21

Ok maybe I enjoyed it but not thoroughly

I don't mind a bit of boundary pushing so long as I'm ok with it which I was

WobblyLondoner · 15/03/2024 18:13

Off the point I know but was struck by this painting at the Tate Britain John Singer Sargent exhibition (c1889). Remind you of anyone?!

Poor Things
MonkeyTennis34 · 17/03/2024 12:50

Saw it last night.
Loved it.

Wow, as a pp commented, the aesthetic was stunning! Absolutely loved that element of the film, wish there were more films being challenging in this way.

The blue of her dress, even just a detail like that, blew me away.

I wasn't prepared for the amount of "furious jumping" involved!

I thought all the actors were excellent, particularly enjoyed Willem Dafoe.

MonkeyTennis34 · 17/03/2024 12:51

WobblyLondoner that painting is beautiful.
I'm hoping to get up to see the Sargent exhibition.

Fofftwenty21 · 30/03/2024 09:11

Saw this this week.

Its such a shame that they couldn't have Bella developing and finding herself other than through sex because I'm not sure what the
message really was. All the sex and prostitution stuff was really predictable and as soon as they showed her nipple really early on (for no reason) I thought oh he we go.

Also made me wish we had more English actors playing English roles as weird accents that change with each line of dialogue are really distracting.

Twonewcats · 02/04/2024 16:29

I started watching it last night, and couldn't get past her masturbating with food at a table, while a child. Honestly, I love quirky things, I love sexy things, but this made me feel horrible watching it

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 02/04/2024 16:34

StoneColdAlibi · 16/01/2024 10:03

Saw this last night and LOVED it. I thought the portrayal of men's entitlement when it comes to women and their sexuality was so beautifully examined and undermined. It felt like a very feminist message.
I understand some people would find the prostitution section uncomfortable but I saw it as a metaphor for the sex that so many of us have as young women, before we fully understand our agency.
It was all so visually gorgeous and funny, straight into my favourite films list.

Me too.

Bloody brilliant, empowering, Emma stone was amazing and I loved Bellas character and the set up at the end of the film was perfect 😁

Especially liked the boat scenes.

ManchesterBeatrice · 02/04/2024 16:46

Amazing movie ❤️

YourFogLightsAreOnTheresNoFog · 02/04/2024 16:51

I really enjoyed it.
