I absolutely love this fillm

Took me two watches to really get all the subtle details but it's an absolute masterpiece

Watching again on iplayer

The twist is brilliant, although I was a bit conflicted about it !

Peter loves his mum tho and I guess that's what it's about .

I'm afraid I fell asleep to that film.

Far too depressing for me, and I don't usually like seeing animal cruelty depicted on film either.

Savemesos · 23/08/2023 21:41

I’ve no idea what it’s about but I recorded it the other day. Is it violent?

fabmaccawhackyrhumbsaloft · 23/08/2023 21:54

No not violent at all . It's very slow actually but Benedict cumberbatch is brilliant as are all the actors

It took me two goes
But it's brilliant

There's just one scene where Benedict character who is a very complex but unlikable person flicks a blanket at a horse because he's so angry about something (no spoilers !) but it just shows he's not likeable. That's the only scene that's hard to watch .

It'd so slow and so is the soundtrack but it's all building to a massive ending!

My DP says it's really good and I should watch it - it looks too dark for me though 😬 not convinced ....

fabmaccawhackyrhumbsaloft · 23/08/2023 22:09

It' is really good your dp is right and it's rare to see Benedict cumberbatch play such a horrible role !

But it's a really complex film and I actually ended up feeling sorry for him and then it's got this ending that just leaves you goi g "wtf!" But in a good way even if it's a bit conflicting

It's worth a watch or two in my case because it took two goes to understand what happened!

I loved it too.

It had a sinister undertone throughout which made me anticipate something awful. But I found that when bad stuff happens and the twist falls into place, it doesn’t feel dark… just sort of just.

fabmaccawhackyrhumbsaloft · 23/08/2023 22:10

Exactly cafenervosa I found that too!

It's become one of my favourite films

Yeh I quite liked it.

Isheabastard · 23/08/2023 22:24

I loved the film so much I bought the book. That’s very good as well.

@fabmaccawhackyrhumbsaloft thanks, I’ll give it a watch over the weekend and report back!
