Is barbie ok for kids?

6 and 7 year old sons are desperate to see the barbie movie.

I saw it last night and loved it but thought it might be a bit over their heads. That said I couldn’t see anything hugely inappropriate in it. References to adult themes but they wouldn’t understand those and that’s no worse than say, the simpsons, which they have seen.

Thoughts?

Personally I wouldn’t. Firstly the trailers we had yesterday were quite scary - Meg 3 I think and Haunted House.

There were lots of young kids in our screening and they looked pretty bored and a few left before the end. It’s just not a children’s film in my opinion.

But of course you know your kids and if you think they’d enjoy it, go for it!

If you have seen it and think it's ok then why do you need other people's opinions? I've not seen it but have seen posts about young children going I originally told my dd nearly 8 she can't watch it but have now booked tickets for next weekend after seeing lots of reviews of younger kids going. If it was that bad young children wouldn't be allowed full stop.

I was interested to hear (1) if anyone else had taken kids a similar age and they were bored or not mored and (2) if anyone else who’d seen it had a different read… maybe something i’d missed which would be sufficiently inappropriate to be a no-no for such young kids. Realised after post is a bit weird given i’ve seen the film but still really undecided x

They'd find it unutterably boring.

It’s not a child’s film at all.…

We went with 7 & 9 year olds. They’ve been to see a 12A before and can concentrate well, but they got really bored this time and couldn’t understand a lot of it. I didn’t think it was inappropriate, just not a kids’ film. There were lots of other restless kids in there!

I absolutely loved it, though.

I really enjoyed it, and so did my 12 year old. I didn't take my 7 year old -and glad I didn't, she would have been bored. Cinema was full of adults btw.

I went on opening day to do an Oppenheimer/Barbie double bill. We were meant to be going to a later evening Barbie showing to avoid kids but ended up having to see an earlier showing at 5pm and it was full of kids under 12.

At least 10 parents took their kids out after about 30mins (which is about the point at which they leave "Barbieland") and never came back plus many more were repeatedly up and down for wee breaks/snacks etc mostly because their kids were bored and fidgety.

Then there were the groups of kids who were just bored after about 1-1.5hrs and so we're fidgeting, chatting and just generally being annoying to everyone else.

I would not be taking kids, not because there was inappropriate sex/violence etc but because it's just not aimed at them so they will be bored and just disturb the film for everyone else.

God no its just not a kids film you've seen it though so surely you recognised that.
The marketing is weird and I felt like I'd seen the first 20 mins across the various trailers which is prob the only bit that would appeal to kids

I was struck by how it would be completely boring for kids.
