I love shows where a modern person gets thrown into a book or history like 'Lost in Austen' or the series 'Outlander'. Can anyone recommend similar shows?

Quantum Leap. Though it's a bit less romantic than those you mention.

SheilaFentiman · 21/03/2023 09:38

Timeless - slightly different as they are purposefully travelling but the history is interesting

Fuckingfuckssake · 21/03/2023 09:50

There was a film with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeves years ago.

Ooh thanks for the recommendations. I have watched quantum leap not timeless. I'll see if I can find the ja/cr one. I am partial to a romantic element though as you spotted Grin

Its called somewhere in time, its pretty romantic so should meet your requirements op!

Also recommend one called from time to time with Maggie Smith although it's more aimed at kids. As is Tom's midnight Garden.

And recently watched last night in soho which is a bit more grim and not romantic but interesting enough

Locke and Key on Netflix has an element of that.

A discovery of witches starts in the modern day, but by the second series they are in the Elizabethan period. The male lead is a hundreds year old vampire who was originally alive in that time period, but the female lead who is a modern day very powerfull witch was not. Loads of romance between the two leads and as someone who is a huge Outlander fan i would totally recommend it.
Very different but still incredble time travel series are life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. There is some romance for the leads, but more actiin based.

Redannie118 · 01/04/2023 14:42

Action based !

Not really time travel but I love Blast from the Past. Brendan Fraser is so adorable in it.

Midnight at the Pera Palace on Netflix is good. It’s Turkish but you can watch it dubbed or with subtitles (subtitles is better). It’s set in the Pera Palace hotel in Istanbul and is about a modern day journalist who falls through time. https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81212136

Watch Midnight at the Pera Palace | Netflix Official Site

At a historic Istanbul hotel, a journalist is thrust into the past and must stop a plot that could change the fate of modern Turkey.

"Yesterday's Children" - another movie with Jane Seymour where she sort of travels in time (catching up with a past life). Beautifully made and incredibly moving. It's available on YouTube and pretty decent quality.

"The Lake House" has both time travel and romance elements (though I personally didn't like it that much)

woodhill · 01/04/2023 15:08

I loved that CR and JS film

Wish it would be repeated

Pollyumbrella · 01/04/2023 15:15

Dark on netflix is excellent !

About Time

Niftythrifter · 21/05/2023 16:10

I love about time. I am assuming you have watched the classic Back to the Future trilogy. Even though I personally thought it was a load of rubbish Interstellar and Tenet ( Better than Interstellar) but maybe not exactly what you are looking for in terms of characters getting stuck in the past.
There is also Bill and Ted and the sequel!

ReginaTheEvilQueen · 21/05/2023 19:01

I highly recommend Frequency, with Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel (?) Jims character digs out his fathers old cb radio, ham if your American, and fiddles around with it, ends up chatting to some guy, the guy he's chatting to turns out to be his father, thing is his father died about 30 years ago....

Dogsitterwoes · 21/05/2023 19:08

A Discovery of Witches, as suggested above, will be just what you are looking for.
