What's Love Got To Do With It?

Really enjoyed this! Bit slow in the middle but some really sensitive moments.

Loved Emma Thompson's comedy element but did not know if to feel embarrassed laughing at her ignorant and out-dated quips.

I really enjoyed it too - very obvious ending, but a feel good film

I'm going today or tomorrow. Love Emma Thompson.

TangoBrava · 27/02/2023 14:18

Ooooh, I am seeing it on Wednesday with one of my teenagers. I am so in the mood for a good comedy, even if it does look slightly predictable. I adore Emma Thompson so I am sure I'll love it.

I saw this yesterday and loved it! After a run of picking films that didn’t do anything for me then this was a great surprise!

Mumsnut · 28/02/2023 06:56

We bowled with laughter, and sniffled a bit too

Mumsnut · 28/02/2023 06:56

Howled….

CuriousMama · 01/03/2023 18:59

Well I went to see this today. Sat and watched adverts etc. Then I wanna dance with somebody came on. The girl on the desk had given us the wrong tickets! When I went to complain ours was 10 minutes in. So I just got a refund. I'd already eaten half a box of popcorn 🙈
I didn't know I wanna dance was still on at the pics?

CuriousMama · 01/03/2023 19:00

Btw I've already seen I wanna and it's not one I'd watch again.

xraydelta · 01/03/2023 19:39

Saw it today and loved it!!!

I also really enjoyed all the previews of other movies coming up - all with strong "older" female characters.

WGACA · 01/03/2023 19:41

It’s good. We cried too.

Housewife2010 · 01/03/2023 23:53

We've just come back from the cinema and loved it. Very handsome leading man too.

TwoMonthsOff · 02/03/2023 00:19

So not the brilliant Tina turner biopic ? Aaaw love that movie ❤️

CuriousMama · 07/03/2023 20:41

Saw it today. Really enjoyed it. Loved all the colour at the wedding.
It was predictable but lovely anyway.

Yes leading man is rather yum😋

daftnotdumb · 15/03/2023 13:17

I thought it was really weird.

From a basic romcom POV yes it provided all the basic fuzzy feelings, comedy and the 2 main characters ending up together.

But from a message perspective of trying to be 'more' than just your typical romcom it was very strange and seemed to do a total 180. It went from alternative marriages shouldn't be judged and the western way isn't always right, to ending up like every other romcom, and with a white saviour swooping in and saving the Muslim family from their own cultural intolerance.

For a film that actually referenced 'white lens' it seemed to be abit tone deaf.

I'm not saying not to see it, it was nice and an easy romcom, but it really had the chance to be different, unique, even provide some social commentary, and it really failed at that.

Peach27 · 15/03/2023 19:02

I enjoyed it but it was a little odd in the sense. Again wasn’t sure about Emma Thompson thought she could have still done the mad mum stuff without so many tone death comments. Thought the sister bit at the end was a little contrived surely a family feud would take a little longer to heal than just 1 meeting in the hallway? Loved the wedding scenes and Lily James is always very likeable

Comedycook · 15/03/2023 22:42

Saw it today with my DD.. absolutely loved it. Cried at a couple of moments.

Felt a bit like a guilty pleasure! Agree with all the criticims above especially re the ending. Bit of a copout and highly derivative/ clichéd- a bit of imagination wouldn't have gone amiss. But I'm afraid I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I did enjoy the wedding scene, I rather toook to the bride and her mates!
