Just watching this and did the maths of what the wedding in the film costs. They say it's $250 a head for 512 people is $128000!!! For a wedding!?!

No wonder he's losing it through the whole movie! That's an insane amount this was the 90's too.

I remember watching it aged 11/12 and how we all laughed at how silly and extravagant Americans are.......... but lots of MN weddings seems to be similar these days!!

Heyahun · 04/02/2023 20:36

It was the crappest wedding ever as well tbh 😂😂😂

CantStartaFireWithoutaSpark · 04/02/2023 20:50

Loved this movie.
But it is responsible for all my unrealistic expectations about how much people care about you getting married! 😂😂😂

Both the Father of the Bride films are major comfort movies for me but I can't say I really thought about the prices they quoted. No wonder George lost the plot!

Annie was so damn entitled !

Franck is fantastic.

BUT

Diane Keaton and Steve Martin's characters are supposed to be just 45 years old! They look so...aged. Shock

Okay, but presumably the point was to exaggerate. Have you seen the original?

ProtectorExtraordinaryOfTheCantonsOfNim · 11/02/2023 02:56

But Diane Keaton and Steve Martin were both in the 44-46 age range when filming it (depending on when exactly it was filmed - when the film came out Keaton was 45 and Martin 46).

Just talking about the Spencer Tracy version earlier with Dh! Weird coincidence.

I don't understand how the wedding reception cost $250 a head when, wasn't it held at their own house? Must've been SOME buffet!

Yes! I mean they did a lot - put up a marquee in the garden, repainted the house, had swans waddling about etc but that costs the same whether there are 50 people or 250 people so not sure how it's a per head thing?
