Im currently watching Oliver, I only watching ONCE a year religiously around Christmas time. Anyone else to this with old films?
If so what’s your film(s) of choice?

Mine is also this version of Oliver. Apparently, when I was a little girl I looked like the child that played Oliver (Mark Lester, i think) 🙂

BedTaker · 28/12/2022 19:57

Is there another film version of Oliver other than that one?

It's ones of my favourite films, I must have watched it dozens of times!

Breezycheesetrees · 28/12/2022 19:57

Jack Wild is perfect in Oliver ❤

Ohhh so nice to see other fans of this film! It’s a real comfort film for me.
Fagin is brilliant!

@BedTaker
there is a BBC version with Tom Hardy and Sara Lancashire, it’s really depressing 😢

DeathWinsAGolfish · 28/12/2022 20:12

We watch this too, "these sausages are mouldy!" "Shut up an' drink yer gin..."
Love it!

Forever42 · 28/12/2022 20:17

Love all the songs in Oliver. Think Oliver Reed and Ron Moody were perfectly cast.

I watch Calamity Jane every year. It was my favourite as a child and now DD watches with me.

Sausagenbacon · 28/12/2022 22:37

I adore Calamity Jane but out Xmas film in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I more or less know it by heart, but still laugh out loud.

I so love the 1968 Oliver. Amazing cast and so many great sing along songs!

Planes, Trains and Automobiles was on a couple of days ago and I watched it. Hadn't seen it in years. "Those aren't pillows!!" 😂

Such a good film!!. The Santa in this film is exactly how I imagine the ‘real’ one to look

That’s Oliver Twist though- not the musical version (Oliver!). Yes, more depressing without a bit of Oom Pah Pah 😁

Inextremis · 28/12/2022 22:54

We watch (annually) Die Hard on Christmas Eve, and The Wizard of Oz on Christmas Day - but I think I'll watch Oliver! tomorrow!

TwoMonthsOff · 28/12/2022 22:56

@Bernadinetta True - but I cant bear seeing children suffer like that and its not even as if its exaggerated that actually happened to them 😓

Mezmer · 28/12/2022 22:56

I saw 1946 Great Expectations last year and loved it! I like old films and not new ones as much.

CaptainBarbosa · 28/12/2022 23:04

I love that Oliver.

Who will buy scene is my favourite with all the cart sellers and everything.

My must watch every year Christmas film however, and I know it's not to everyone's taste.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

I love Oliver!! A great film that has stood the test of time. I went to see it at the pictures when it was first released and I had a huge crush on Mark Lester. I wanted to marry him (I was 7) 😍😍

Whiteminnowfish · 28/12/2022 23:41

One of my favourite films Oliver. Love all the songs and dancing. The ending is quite sad and violent, especially for kids to watch.

I love The Wizard of Oz, but not seen it on the TV listings this year

beguilingeyes · 11/01/2023 16:06

I went to a Singalonga version of Oliver in the West End. It was hysterical..the songs are all so high and virtually impossible to song.

Mine is When Harry Met Sally, BTW.
