Do you know what this film is?

So, when I was younger (1990's) there was always one film we watched at Christmas. It was a sad film but set in snow and was always on TV in the Christmas period. However I have not been able to find it for years - I cannot remember the name.

From memory a child dies (I think little girl) and her mum is of course devastated, and she thinks she can see her deceased child in mirrors in the attic. And then she decides to be with her child and so gets her younger child (toddler son I think) and stuffs her scarf up the exhaust of the car and sits in it with her son waiting to see her deceased child again. I'm pretty sure they're saved but I can't remember.

Does anyone have any idea of this film or its name? I know it's a bit sad but it was always one we watched but no one can remember it's name.
