Tried this on Amazon but it's all in Thai with subtitles!

Is it a documentary or a film?

DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms · 06/08/2022 16:28

A drama film.

Hadn't realised it was in Thai sure I'd watched trailers and not realised. Weren't there some US actors in it.
Was hoping to watch it tonight.

QueSyrahSyrah · 06/08/2022 16:29

I've just watched the trailer and the Thai actors were (rightly) speaking Thai but the American / British actors were speaking English? If I'm looking at the same thing.

I thought it was quite nice to see the Thai actors speaking as they would, rather than being almost entirely erased from the narrative like they were in the Hollywood movie about the Tsunami.

NoHunGosh · 06/08/2022 16:30

Not all in Thai. Watched it last night and it is a mix of English and Thai -though no English for the first 15/20 minutes. Enjoyed it.

LightandMomentary · 06/08/2022 16:32

Surely you just don't watch it if you don't like subtitles? There's a pretty good reason for it to be in Thai...

There is a film on Netflix of the same according to my DH and he think's that one's in English. That may not help if you only have Amazon though.

daisym00n · 06/08/2022 16:52

If it’s the one that's just been released, it is not all in Thai. It has Colin Farrell in it!

Bumply · 06/08/2022 17:13

It's not 'all in Thai'
It accurately reflects the language spoken at any time in the film, so the first few minutes with the boys and their coach is obviously in Thai, but the vast majority is in English as we're seeing things from the point of view of the English cave rescuers.

VaVaVoombangabang · 06/08/2022 17:18

Watched it on Amazon and it was not all in Thai, subtitles when the Thai actors were speaking other than that in English.

Your DH may possibly be thinking of 'The Rescue' on Disney+ which is the documentary of the cave rescue - that's also a mix of Thai and English

Thanks everyone. I just find it hard to keep my eyes open when watching TV and films so need something I can just listen to. esp as it's 2.5hrs long!

It’s worth pushing through the first half an hour or so to get to some of the English speaking bits, after that it’s a mix of Thai and English, and a lot of parts have no speaking at all. Watched it last night and really enjoyed it, and I don’t usually watch subtitled films.

DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms · 06/08/2022 19:33

Hmmm, it's a shame they don't put some info at the start saying "it's not subtitles all the way through, don't give up in a fit of pique!!"

I've just finished it. Those divers were utterly amazing. They must have come home and slept for weeks.

One of them was volunteering at a 100 mile ultra run a couple of weeks later Wink

girlfriend44 · 07/08/2022 16:56

Is it not on at the cinema? Don't have amazon Prime.

flowerycurtain · 07/08/2022 21:38

Just finished this. Bloody brilliant film. Just incredible. The tech, the divers, the engineers, the boys, the coach!

FireandBrimstone · 07/08/2022 21:44

If you have Disney+ this documentary on the same subject is well worth watching

It's excellent, first 10/15 min subtitles but not much after. Very interesting film. I normally get bored with long films but was totally gripped.

girlfriend44 · 07/08/2022 22:35

One of the divers died.

Fizzorgin · 07/08/2022 23:56

girlfriend44 · 07/08/2022 22:35

One of the divers died.

Two did. One ex-Thai SEAL who came to volunteer died whilst trying to get wetsuits to the boys, and another Thai SEAL died soon after of a blood infection contracted over the course of the rescue. Deeply sad :-(

SueSaid · 08/08/2022 06:49

Those divers, so so brave. The whole rescue operation was just unbelievable and breathtaking. I thought the film was excellent.

One thing I wish they'd mentioned as why on earth they were all so far into the cave, it took 7hours to get out. Yes walking would've taken less time but what was the coach thinking did he think there was another exit, was he heading for higher ground or what. It just seemed such a reckless unfathomable thing to have done, take a group of kids so deep into a cave network.

DenholmElliot1 · 08/08/2022 19:31

I think they were headed for higher ground - the water was coming in behind them.

TorviShieldMaiden · 08/08/2022 19:36

I read an article about it and the coach’s actions saved them. He took them to higher ground.

colourmebladd · 10/08/2022 12:13

If you do have access to Disney+ watch 'The Rescue' documentary as someone mentioned above. It sits well alongside the film and is absolutely edge of your seat stuff. It goes a bit deeper into some aspects, such as the cave layout and the divers. Bring tissues though.....
