Can anyone identify this Italian B&W film please?

I must have seen this in the early 1980s, it was set in the 1950s or 60s, may have been made then too (I saw it on TV).

Main character was a poor Italian housewife who lived in a grimy city. She was diagnosed with TB and sent to a sanitarium in the mountains. Whilst being treated there she had an emotional affair with another patient. Her TB went into remission and she was discharged back to her home.

Has anyone any idea what this film is called?
