DD5 has just reached the age where she can enjoy films I liked when I was younger and still enjoy now. Last weekend we watched Wizard of Oz and Return to Oz. Over Christmas we enjoyed Home Alone. Does anyone have any suggestions of films of this ilk we could watch together?

Considering Labyrinth and Drop Dead Fred (possibly too old for her). Can anyone think of any others? Thanks!

Toy Story series. Great for all ages.

Return to Oz is bloody terrifying!

JaninaDuszejko · 17/01/2022 18:45

Isn't Bedknobs and Broomsticks racist or something? Admittedly I haven't read or watched it since I was a child. And speaking of racist we watched the Walt Disney Peter Pan open mouthed at the portrayal of native Americans so avoid that.

Matbest · 17/01/2022 18:47

I know, she is very brave! I still felt a bit freaked put by the Wheelers in Return to Oz - so creepy.

On the problematic children's film front - I used to love One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing, but the portrayal of Chinese people is truly shocking.

Drop Dead Fred is brilliant, but it's rated 15! Confused

I don't think Bedknobs and Broomsticks is racist. Are you thinking of Song of the South?

Apparently some people think the Portobello Road sequence shows various ethnic minority groups dancing in stereotypical ways. It's been a long time since I last saw it but I loved it as a child.

All the Disneys. My favourite is 101 Dalmations. My children watched The Rescuers approx 100 times.
