Ah, love it.

“Everything I own is on that boat!!!”
“Well, it’s all still there… It’s just… not so near the top of the water.”

And it still makes me cry at the end…

A kids film that kids aren’t supposed to watch 🤣 my dvd says it was a 15!
Loved and still do. Sequels would have been amazing

Fridafever · 11/01/2022 20:30

I loved this when I was a kid! Was just thinking I would like to show DS (7) but I’d forgotten how rude it is. Don’t fancy introducing the phrase megabitch into his vocab really!

CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 11/01/2022 20:31

@ChiefClerkDrumknott

I LOVED this film as a child 😂 Fairly sure I didn’t understand half the references, such as 👆🏻“Cobwebs”
Same. And I then I suddenly "got it". Cobwebs was slang for pubes. So funny and I was so clever and grown up for working it out.

Then I watched it as an adult and... ohhhhhh... that's what he meant. Not pubes at all. Grin

I think thats why it's so funny. It's funny even if you misunderstand the jokes Grin

I let my dc watch it around that age. They thought he said megawitch for years.

I thought it was a 12 not a 15. But I'm clearly a bit lax on age ratings (not intentionally. I thought it was a kids film as I'd grown up watching it so said they could watch it and didn't check the rating )

🤣 I was thinking exactly the same thing!
Soubriquet · 11/01/2022 20:36

Yes looking back I’m thinking “how did my parents let me watch this?!”

Now I’m thinking “is 8 and 6 too young?..cos it’s funny as hell” Grin

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 12/01/2022 01:11

@CiaoForDiNiaoSaur It’s so funny when you have an ‘Oh I get it!’ moment 🤣🤣

greyspottedgoose · 12/01/2022 01:22

I always thought cobwebs was a reference to lack of use 🤔

CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 12/01/2022 01:38

Well yes. As an adult of course it is. But as a child... I went with what I understood. And got it wrong.
Soubriquet · 12/01/2022 07:50
Blush

I still thought it meant pubic hair. There’s me told

Maybe it does. Who knows. As long as it makes you laugh Grin

Love this film! I have it on dvd and put it on for DC when they were about 4 and 6 thinking it was a kids film and not checking the rating. Pretty soon in I realised it‘s not really appropriate for little kids and I turned it off, but it was too late, they loved it and kept requesting it! So I try and cherry pick the kid friendly bits and hope the jokes and bad language go over their heads! I can’t wait to watch it properly with them when they’re older.

I’m horrified they might remake it. Maybe a sequel would be ok (with a different imaginary friend as you can’t have DDF played by anyone else!) but why remake a film that is already perfection?!

MilduraS · 14/01/2022 11:59

I watched it as a kid and all of the adult jokes went over my head. I think I was 11-12 the last time I watched it as a child and still didn't get them. Watched it again in my 20s and was shocked with how much I managed to miss.

GrandTheftWalrus · 16/01/2022 17:48

I love drop dead Fred. They should never remake it.

Also someone mentioned peeves. When I read the 1st book and he said ickle firsties what fun, I read it in rik mayalls voice and thought he would be perfect then read he'd been cast and it cut.
