Something lighthearted, maybe funny, maybe feel-good. Preferably not cheesy. Language doesn't matter, happy to use subtitles.

We're having a filmarathon tonight and I'm being asked to choose a film. But I really don't know what's around.

Saving Grace the one with Brenda Blethyn
Cool Runnings
A boy called Christmas

What age group? For 15 and over - Amelie (french with subtitles) is sweet and romantic (but not sickly sweet), games night is silly "action" fun, new jumanji is quite good.

Topbird29 · 31/12/2021 16:32

Love cool runnings - and Eddie the Eagle is also surprisingly good and has funny bits (and has Hugh Jackman!)

Dilbertian · 31/12/2021 16:46

15+

We tried watching Amelie a few years ago, but it didn't grip us and we fell asleep (admittedly we were sleep-deprived from having a small baby).

Cool Runnings - a good one, but we've seen it.

I'll look up the others.

We're the millers. Cracks me up every time.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 31/12/2021 16:59

Keeping Mum - very British slightly black humour. Rowan Atkinson, Kristen Scott Thomas & Dame Maggie Smith.

ANameChangeAgain · 31/12/2021 16:59

Have you seen The Dressmaker? It's one of my favourites. Not a comedy, but has some very funny bits.

junebirthdaygirl · 31/12/2021 17:00

Lighthearted..The Nativity
More serious The Hand of God..set in Naples
King Richard..Story of Venus and Serena Williams childhood with their Dad Richard

Freagal · 31/12/2021 17:02

Have you seen The Gentleman? Ticks all boxes for me!

Topbird29 · 31/12/2021 17:31

How about solo. Is quite fast paced, and the actor that plays young hans solo is good. And the droids get the best lines.

GlamourSpider · 31/12/2021 17:33

Wonder
Green Book
Captain Fantastic
The Blind Side
Little Miss Sunshine
Pleasantville

Moonface123 · 31/12/2021 17:35

Planes, Traines and Automobiles.
Uncle Buck.

Missingjigsawpuzzle · 31/12/2021 17:35

'Instant family' is a laugh out loud, feel good one

'Super intelligence' is also laugh out loud and feel good

Rivermonsters · 31/12/2021 18:28

Green inferno by Eli Roth, it’s a horror film but has comedic moments

von1471 · 31/12/2021 18:41

I second Green Book, really made me think, but don’t let that put you off as it’s an excellent film.
Also, The Intouchables, French subtitles and believe me I don’t watch sub-titled films but it was so funny. They have done an American version but not as good as the original.

Dilbertian · 01/01/2022 01:15

We watched Keeping Mum. It was perfect Grin I expected slapstick from Rowan Atkinson, and was pleasantly surprised.

Hsppy New Year MNers Wine

The boat that rocks. One of my favourites.
