Don't really watch films as can never decide with DH what to watch. However caught the second half of The Full Monty the other week and although seen it loads it is the perfect film for me. So the things I like are it's funny, poignant, I was going to say no nudity, but nothing overtly sexual so good family viewing, which should make it boring but its not. So what modern film would give the same feeling.

I watched Jojo Rabbit with DH and both DCs (13 and 16) a couple of days ago and everyone enjoyed it. Both DCs got and laughed at the jokes and they're usually miserable. 🤣

Don't be put off by the title, which sounds childlike or by the fact it's set in WWII. It's not really a comedy about Hitler but the story is told from the Hitler Youth's view.

Anyone else?

I just watch My Life as a Courgette, what a wonderful film

MartyHart · 23/07/2021 07:18

I really like The Love Punch (Emma Thompson and Pierce Brosnan).
Cheesy but funny and sweet.
Also love Clueless.

Not super new but these films always make me feel good:

About A Boy
Crazy Srupid Love
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
The Commitments
Kinky boots
Goal

HettySunshine · 23/07/2021 07:45

Crazy Rich Asians.

Not at all how the title makes it sound. It's a really sweet love story with some really fascinating insights into the high end Chinese lifestyle. Some really funny bits too.

LunaNorth · 23/07/2021 07:48

Pride. What a great film. About how the gay community supported the striking miners in the ‘80s.

Redcrayons · 23/07/2021 07:53

Peanut butter falcon is a lovely film. Not fall off your chair comedy, but really sweet. No nudity and a tiny bit of swearing.

I watched The Full Monty with my teens recently, first time for them but not for me. I’d forgotten how funny it is.

queenrollo · 23/07/2021 18:23

Have you seen Miss Potter. It's not my usual thing at all but I put it on one evening when I was having a particularly bad time and I was just the most lovely film.

suckingonchillidogs · 23/07/2021 18:31

The Way Way Back and Parenthood always cheer me up

suckingonchillidogs · 23/07/2021 18:32

Oh sorry, you said modern

FlorenceWintle · 23/07/2021 18:34

I would second The Peanut Butter Falcon.

Alicehood · 27/07/2021 19:58

Summerland

Just watched it and what a bloody fantastic film.

Kanaloa · 02/08/2021 00:03

I came to say Pride also! It’s a fantastic film as (unlike many movies focused on the aids epidemic) it doesn’t reduce the gay community to grotesque depictions of people dying of aids. It’s dealt with in a really dignified and graceful way, although I do cry a bit at the end!

We also love any sort of cheesy movies like Karate Kid, Rocky, anything featuring an underdog/underdog team who you can cheer on.
