Army of the Dead, I seriously couldn't tell that they had changed an actor after filming

I'm really scared of zombie films so I'm watching Army of the Dead in little segments. I'm only really watching it because I fancy Dave Bautista like mad admire Dave Bautista's acting.

Anyway, I'm about half way through and I just found out that one of the actors was replaced after filming had completely finished so the replacement actor green-screened the entire role and even now that I know what I'm looking at I still can't tell the difference.

Clearly I was so blown away by Dave I never even noticed! Who was it?

Flaunch · 30/05/2021 12:48

It was really well done wasn’t it. Good film too!

I didn’t notice at all either. I read about the switch after I had watched the film. Pretty impressive.

It's a good film so far (if scary). There's lots to like including around half of the tough guys being female and the creepy guard getting payback for harassing women. The daughter character is a bit of a pain in the arse though, although I suppose a lot of films need a character to behave irrationally and do what they specifically agreed that they wouldn't do in order to provide tension and move the plot in different directions.

It's the helicopter pilot played by Tig Notaro ipswichwitch. Apparently there was only one scene that required another member of the cast to be present because they were physically interacting, so Tig didn't meet any of the others.

Wow I had no idea!!! I’ll have to read up on this now.
Film was canny, 20 minutes too long and had the standard annoying daughter character but otherwise enjoyed it.

burnoutbabe · 30/05/2021 13:19

It's fairly obvious when you know, all her scenes she is on her own when speaking. Bar the first helicopter on roof bit.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 30/05/2021 13:33

The character was played by a man who turned out to be a sexual harasser so they replaced him with Tig. Impressive integrity as it was a lot of money to do.

ipswichwitch · 30/05/2021 13:43

Ah see now you’ve told me I’ve had a bit of an “oh yeah!” moment Grin
Very impressed on the integrity front. Have to say I did enjoy it overall. Spent a good 10minutes trying to remember where I’d seen the creepy guard before - he was Juice in Sons of Anarchy. Terrible hairdo made it harder to figure out!

Thought this thread would be about that!
I'm just coming on to say I love Tig Notaro. So glad she's starting to get roles in more popular things.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 30/05/2021 13:55

Was anybody else desperately bothered that they went into Las Vegas and left the door to the quarantine camp wide open behind them? I'm hoping that there's some sort of airlock style system going on there and there is another door at the other end of the container that we haven't seen, possibly with a combination padlock on it that they were all told the code to.

Yes! That’s the first thing I said to DH - “they’ve gone and left those bloody doors wide open”

PollyGray · 30/05/2021 14:11

Agree, seamless stitching together of Tig Notaro's part; I have a hugec rush on her so all good as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, and what about all the radioactive fall out?

But y'know it's a zombie movie so......all perfectly believable Grin

Yutes · 30/05/2021 15:50

Don’t want to give any spoilers but I loved the fresh take they had.

Loved that it was basically a heist movie, with zombies.

Nospringchickendipper · 31/05/2021 08:30

Watched this last night and enjoyed it .
They did leave the ending open for Army of the Dead2
