Please can we have you suggestions for a film for a 4 year old. It's movie night on Sunday - we have exhausted all options during lockdown (it feels)! He's asking for Harry Potter, but reading Common Sense Media it seems a bit old for him. If it helps we have Prime, Netflix and Disney+. We don't have Sky. Tia

Song of the Sea is incredibly beautiful but you'd need to rent it I think

We watched the live action Charlottes Web a week back and ds (3.5) loved it! Even dd (1.5) sat through most of it making animal noises.

We’re watching fantastic mr fox this week

My dc’s favourites at that age were the toy story films, cars, the chipmunks (great music!), bee movie, minions..

Thanks all! I think we've seen a fair few of these, but I'll check out the ones we haven't.

He's really into "real people movies". So we've watched the Wizard of Oz, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins, the new Beauty and the Beast. He was fine with all of these - any suggestions along these lines please? Most of them seem to be for older kids.

Gene Wilder version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

If he wants Harry Potter then the first 3 are PG. Still quite scary though.

Other live action PG films with a fantasy element that might be OK (some more than others!):

Spiderwick Chronicles
Narnia films
Malificent
Into the Woods
Labyrinth
Paddington
Peter Rabbit
Matilda
The Princess Bride
Stardust

U rated live action films (should definitely be OK for a 4 yo):
Hugo
The Secret of Moonacre
Racing Stripes
Star Wars
Nanny McPhee
Charlotte's Web

@JaninaDuszejko I just checked back on the off chance that a few more people had replied and there's a fair few on your list that we haven't yet watched! We'll work our way up to the Harry Potters I think!

Thank you all for taking the time to reply!

My 4 year old loved Paddington, although Paddington 2 had a bit too much ‘plot’ and talking. He was also fine with the first 3 Harry Potters, for what it’s worth, but mostly because he didn’t really get it, so worth saving those, I’d say. He also loves the Ice Age and How to Train your Dragon series, although those aren’t ‘real people’.
