how come it's acceptable for them to just rock up at Pemberley and get the grand tour from the housekeeper, and wander round the grounds? I mean, what the hell?! I'd be beyond mighty pissed off to come back from holiday a day early and find my cleaner had let a bunch of strangers rampage all over the joint!

In those days those homes were very much treated like stately homes bow - open to public viewing apart from the living and servants quarters. It would have been normal to show visitors round - many people of gentry felt it was giving back to the people a little who were less privileged than them.

It's not like he lived in a 2 up 2 down terrace Grin
