I think he’d make an excellent bond with a new dynamic

It’s not officially confirmed but they are expecting it to be soon

I am the same age as TH. I don't feel old at all!

There are pictures of him in a tux online and he looks like he could do suave. My concern is his voice. Very hard to understand him in some of his films because he mumbles a lot. I am a fan though and I think he's the best choice of all the others mentioned so far. I agree about Sean Connery being the best and I wasn't a fan of Daniel Craig at all but warmed to him in Skyfall.

How can you have a female James Bond?? You can have a James Bond type film with a female lead character but you can't call it James Bond. It really irks me when people say "it's about time we had a female James Bond" James Bond is male, he can be black, white, Asian...any colour, but must be a British male
Agree with this.

Also, I think James Norton is lovely.

GoldHedgehogLamp · 20/09/2020 09:58

DC has been excellent in bringing Bond back to original. He is supposed to be hard, brutal, mentally unstable. Tom Hardy therefore fits that continuation of theme. I think he is a good choice.

Exactly! A quick watch of TH in Peaky Blinders will confirm all that. Taboo will confirm the sex appeal.

wowfudge · 20/09/2020 11:19

I thought Taboo was a load of codswallop and found TH deeply unattractive in it.

Jason Isaacs is too old.

Rufus Sewell would have been a good choice around the time they chose DC, but is now of an age where he'd make a great Bond villain.

Doesn't Tom Hardy have loads of dodgy tattoos? Not sure how shirtless scenes would work

Can't stand that constantly smug Idris Elba, so glad it's not him

Agree with pp about Sean Connery being the best bond, definitely the sexiest out of the lot of them

Oh tats aren’t an issue, they just use make up or digital effects to remove if they decide they don’t want them. Can’t see why bond shouldn’t have tattoos though.
wowfudge · 20/09/2020 12:16

Because if you are a secret agent you shouldn't have something which makes you identifiable? Mind you, whenever the baddies get Bond they always know exactly who he is.

CherryValanc · 20/09/2020 12:32

Daniel Craig is my best Bond, all others before were cheesy or comic. Sean Connery might have been ok but the films were awful

I could get on board with Aidan Turner. He can do sinister and cold, and is good looking enough to believe really attractive women would 'swoon'.

Think Idris is simply too old now sadly.

CherryValanc · 20/09/2020 12:34

Oh, missed the whole point of the thread - Tom Hardy - absolutely no way. I can just picture him doing that ridiculous 'deep voice' and being all gangster.

MagicSid · 01/10/2020 11:53

I think there are two problems with Tom Hardy as Bond.

  1. He's getting on a bit. He's 43 now, they take about 5 years to make a Bond film these days, so he'd be 48 when the next one comes out. That's assuming no complications with COVID etc. At most, you'd get a couple of movies out of him before the action scenes started looking ridiculous. See also: the later Roger Moores.
  1. He's too well known. They usually cast people who are fairly B-list, perhaps for reasons of availability and affordability. Tom Hardy is firmly A-list.

Normally they don't announce these things until after the current Bond's last film. I doubt they'd change that, unless they have so little faith in Die Another Day that they want to get it out of the public eye.

CoraPirbright · 04/10/2020 16:53

Urrgh its a big no from me for Tom Hardy. Excellent actor though he is, he is too much of a thug for Bond. Bond (if you follow the books) should be suave. Tom Hiddleston for me lacks the physical aggression, Henry Cavill is too pretty and has been in “The Man from Uncle’ which might be a problem. James Norton isnt commanding enough. I think Sam Heughan has the right balance - looks good in black tie, can do physical aggression, good actor, bloody sexy.

schubertdibdab · 18/10/2020 09:47

Bond's not suave in the books. He's a misogynistic, racist, snob.

Tom Hardy is a no from me. Hes too burly for one thing.

Craig was a quality Bond. The weakest was Moore mostly due to how cheesy the scripts went. Lazenby was better than he's given credit for.

A previous poster said Dan Steven's. He could work. He can do physical and he's got the intensity.

Someone needs to really throw that hat into the ring like Craig did with Layer Cake which in hindsight is his audition reel for Bond.

NewspaperTaxis · 02/12/2020 23:35

As a Bond fan, this is an interesting thread to find. It's a prob with actors, you see a new Bond should be in his early 30s like Connery in Dr No. But that puts the producers over a barrel - because they're usually put on a three film contract. That means, four films in the actor can call the shots money wise and they don't like that. So they want an actor out after four films.

You see the problem here. Early 30s, and actor does four films. and he's 42 or thereabouts. He can call in the big money. So the producers will then dump him. But.... Early 40s and popular, not easy to let go and get in a new Bond when another one is on the loose and still a contender. It sort of worked with Connery cos he was bald and clearly really didn't want to do it anymore and not a 1970s leading man really.

But otherwise, they tend to prefer actors who have a 10-year limit so they do their three films and then get a bonus with one or two above that (Brosnan' s 4, Craig's 5) then they go off to the knackers yard.

Hardy is knocking on a bit. Then again, so are the producers and just how long they want to continue with all this is a moot point.

NewspaperTaxis · 02/12/2020 23:38

Sorry did that make sense? I mean, they will go for actors in their early 40s even if they're going to seed because it saves them money and they can pension them off easily after four films because they're deemed 'too old'. Otherwise the younger successful actor may be Bond for 20 years - they won't have an excuse to get rid of them, and a) The audience gets bored and b) The producers have to shell out a fortune once they're out of contract.

lalafafa · 02/12/2020 23:58

He can’t even string a sentence together , rubbish choice.

Fizbosshoes · 03/12/2020 00:07

Judy Dench's character died two bond films ago, the fact that people are saying she's the best thing about the current franchise suggests you don't watch them and probably aren't the target audience.

I'm glad you mentioned that.i was sure she died in one I watched, but I'm not that much of a fan.
If Tom Hardy is not the right age, then surely neither is Idris Elba? (hes 48)

nosswith · 03/12/2020 10:22

Isn't it time after 25 films just to retire James Bond? Accept he is a character from a different age?

This. The idea of a female Bond is just pure wokeness. His name is James ffs. I’m team Idris.
GRAK · 07/12/2020 15:57

Well... I might start watching Bond films then lol

Wantsadvice1978909 · 19/12/2020 09:22

As if hardy wasn’t sexy enough, they now want to cast him as bond 😋
