Has anyone else seen the movie? It was released straight to Disney+ a couple of days ago. DS(11) is a huge Artemis Fowl fan and we all watched it last night. We all enjoyed it - that never happens! We is DH, DS(11) and DD(8). I haven’t read the books, but DS says that the movie covered about the first 3 books, and definitely left space for at least one sequel.

I’m 29, I remember reading the books when I was much younger, I really enjoyed it when I watched it last night!
I read them that long ago, that I honestly couldn’t say how many books the film covered or if it missed bits out

I haven't watched it yet (too busy binge watching Alex Rider on Amazon Prime) but I'm a big fan of the books so I'm glad it's good. I'm not sure how they could fit 3 books into 1 film. That must be a lot of cuts.

Really pleased to see some people enjoying the film as it was slated in the US. Will give it a try!

lol @Hels20. Don’t rely too much on my 11 year old’s opinion! I enjoyed the film from a completely uninitiated point of view.

Watched it yesterday and loved it. Don't understand the bad reviews. All the family liked it.

I watched it with my family today. None of us had read the books, but all found it enjoyable. 🙂

My 13 year old really enjoyed it.

My 14 yr old was do frustrated and disappointed - had a running commentary on everything they got wrong - which was a lot.

It was a bit meh for me, seemed to be missing something. 12 year old dd is a huge fan of the books and said it was ok but they watered a lot down. Artemis is meant to be a criminal mastermind and a bit of a villain at the beginning but the film just didn’t show that, it would have been more interesting had they gone down this route.

I've not watched it yet, but I know a lot of the criticism comes from the deviations from the books' plot.
Some of it's just about making it fit better on the big screen and more action-y, but other things were pretty integral character points - eg Artemis starts off as the bad guy in the books, and Holly is the first ever female LEPrecon officer fighting against institutional sexism. There were also some criticisms over casting choice - the "coffee coloured" Holly is now white, whereas the formerly Eurasian family servant is now black.

Not saying I agree/disagree with any of the above!
I'm glad pp are saying they enjoyed it, though! We've been looking forward to seeing this so might have to watch it this weekend. Grin
