Couldn’t see a thread already - saw it Wednesday. Thought it was good fun, a few holes in the story but it didn’t spoil it. DH annoyed me as he fell asleep (snoring in the cinema Angry) and then insisted on us telling him the plot he’d missed. DS16 obliged as he very rarely comes with us and didn’t know this is what DH does.

Absolutely hated Daniel Craig’s accent - just why?????

I was debating taking DH to see it as went with friend last time. Heartening to hear it's worth a second viewing as I think DH would enjoy it.

Fluffythefish · 08/12/2019 14:19

I loved the film but it might be worth stating it is not for the emetophobic

PrivateSpidey · 08/12/2019 18:15

Yes I think that is fair to say Fluffy!

I didn't think it had plot holes as such, but I had questions about what happened with one of the characters specifically - I don't think I can say though because of spoilers??...

Having said that, the second viewing did answer a few questions re things I'd missed first time around.

The other thing about watching it again was it allowed more time for enjoying the setting (loved the Gothic pile) and the costumes, as well as following the storyline.

PrivateSpidey · 08/12/2019 18:17

Costumes probably the wrong word as it's not a period piece - wardrobe I think I meant!!

NotSorry · 08/12/2019 22:56

OK so the biggest hole for me was a police department allowing a private detective to lead an investigation into a murder

OP posts:
PrivateSpidey · 08/12/2019 23:23

My question was how come they didn't have the police standing guard outside the house at all times (I need to finish that sentence really for it to make sense, but if you've seen it you will know what I mean??)

It wasn't a plot hole as such and as I said earlier, I'm happy to suspend disbelief because I just marvel at anyone who can write a murder mystery tbh, and if there are bits where you think it might not happen like that in reality... well, never mind because it was massively enjoyable anyway (and had Chris Evans in an Aran jumper so, you know, I ask nothing more Grin)

Horsemad · 10/12/2019 23:14

Just back from watching this; very enjoyable and comedic at times. DC's accent was rubbish really but that aside it was a pretty good film. 🙂

Gone2far · 14/12/2019 08:23

I went with my sister and we were so bored that we left before the end. DC looks more like Sid James in every film he's in, and, as for the 'accent'! Plus I thought the whole vomiting thing was disgusting - they could have done the same 'allergic to lying' thing in a better way.

Cheesecake53 · 14/12/2019 08:33

Spoiler allert!!!!!!!! But did they not class it as suicide? So it was not a murder investigation?

ConverseAndGlitter · 14/12/2019 21:21

Spoiler alert!

They didn't catch him for the original "murder".

CantspellWontspell · 14/12/2019 21:28

Right good old Who Dunnit. Only decided to see it because DH had an unexpected day off and it was the only thing we could see in time to get the kids but was not disappointed. It's a fun watch.

midsomermurderess · 15/12/2019 19:10

It was just what I needed on Friday. I agree that D Craig's accent was grating and I was a bit bored at the start but all in all, I enjoyed it and for once, good did out. Loved Sweet Virginia over the closing credits.

PrivateSpidey · 15/12/2019 20:06

The music was great wasn't it Midsomer (great user name btw) - I don't know why, but it was just so fitting.

midsomermurderess · 15/12/2019 20:16

Well, it does exhort her to scrape that shit right off her shoes 😀

PrivateSpidey · 15/12/2019 22:28

Yes!! I've been listening to the soundtrack on Spotify, it's great (incl Roxy Music as well as the Stones).

dingdang · 15/12/2019 23:00

I watched this on Monday and I have to say felt disappointed with it. Toni Colette and Jamie Lee Curtis seemed criminally underused and DCs accent drove me crazy. It's wasn't terrible and I could see what they were trying to do with the story but didn't seem to pull it off very well.

Funkyslippers · 19/12/2019 11:16

I loved it. I thought DC was great, not really seen him in anything before. I liked his accent! Thought the whole cast were great especially the young actress who played Marta and nice to see Christopher Plummer again. It was 2 hours long but felt shorter.

Mooserp · 26/12/2019 22:17

I really enjoyed it, even got used to DC's accent after a while.

Toni Collette's character seemed to be based on Gwyneth Paltrow 😄

breakfastpizza · 28/12/2019 04:09

I'd say it was a 7/10. Not particularly clever or suspenseful, but it ticked along and kept my attention. I'd def save for a Netflix night in over seeing in theatre.

fussychica · 08/02/2020 17:41

Good fun film. I actually liked DCs over-the-top accent, was in keeping with the hammy style of the whole film. It was all very tongue in cheek, didn't take itself seriously at all.

Standrewsschool · 15/03/2020 11:31

Enjoyed the film. Agreed that Jamie Le Curtis and Toni Collette were underused. Thought it hit a bit Death in Paradise at the end, when they were doing the Big Reveal with everyone there. It’s a long time since there has been an Agatha Christie type whodunnit, so that was refreshing.

Onemorefuck · 23/03/2020 14:27

As a whodunnit it was a bit flat. I felt that I’d already worked it out about half way through.
Should have more unreliable narration and red herrings.
It was ok though.
The vom thing got a bit tedious

Redcrayons · 25/03/2020 20:18

I really enjoyed it, I hadn’t guessed the big reveal.

Daniel Craig’s bizarre accent though Confused

ChicChicChicChiclana · 25/03/2020 20:22

Dh and I went to see it on New Year's Eve at an evening screening.

We had 2 teens out and about who might have needed lifts home so we went out earlyish and stayed home later.

I can't remember a thing about it, certainly not a twist, other than it wasn't a good movie for an emetophobe like me.
