DH and I love to cosy up in the afternoon to watch these 'bad in a good way' films with a hot chocolate and a blanket. But some of them are just Bad, so I thought it would be helpful to have a thread for our recommendations and maybe pointers to when they might be on tv? My usual way of determining whether a film is worth watching (Rotten Tomatoes/IMDB) doesn't really apply to made for TV movies.

I will start.
Today at 11.15am channel 5 A Very Nutty Christmas is on - we watched this last week and really enjoyed it, it stars Melissa Hart from Sabrina and is pretty funny.

Tomorrow (22 Nov) Mrs Miracle 2, Miracle in Manhattan is on channel 5 at 11.15am. Now you don't have to have seen the first Mrs Miracle film as the plot isn't exactly taxing but if you want to it's on Christmas24 lots of times over December. I loved both of these films starring the wonderful Doris Roberts who plays a sort of visiting angel/Mary Poppins character.

Switched for Christmas 26 Nov 5pm Christmas24 (and many other showings) we really enjoyed this tale of identical twins swapping places at Christmas. One of the twins is a high powered career woman in the city who returns to her small home town for Christmas and bumps in to her old boyfriend.

Just in Time for Christmas- I can't find this on tv again (it was on last week) but it's on Prime Video and it's soo good. Christopher Lloyd and William Shatner are in it! It's about a woman who has to choose between a successful career or life in her small home town with her old boyfriend.

Christmas Everlasting is on Paramount on Dec 3 at 3.30pm, we really enjoyed this story of a high powered career woman from the city who returns to her home town to discover the true meaning of Christmas (and bumps into her old boyfriend).

A Christmas Snow Globe - this is one of our very favourites but I can't find it on anywhere! It's about a woman with a high powered city career who returns to her small home town for Christmas where she bumps into her old boyfriend.

Please tell me your recommendations! Smile

We watched the Knight Before Christmas- that was good fun

Christmas Wedding Planner - seriously dire story and acting

boys3 · 27/12/2019 15:15

Crown for Christmas now watched and greatly enjoyed. Always wondered why Rupert Penryn-Jones left Spooks :). Would also recommend the Princess Switch (Gabriella from HSM again), and also Christmas at Grand Valley which has the same lead actress as Crown for Christmas. A Christmas Prince 3 - the Royal Baby watched, and is perhaps now a series running out of steam. contraversial

@NotSorry thanks for the tip on the Christmas Wedding Planner - we gave up after less than five minutes, wisely so it would seem.

Angel of Christmas is not too bad, and one with two grand daughters who switch roles, on imdb its called Christmas in the Heartlands, although sure it has a different title on Amazon / Netflix. Also has Bo Derek and at almost 2hrs it a bit longer than the typica run time for this genre. Quite watchable though.

Have to confess that here we are happy to watch these type of films any time of year :) although the Christmas period is ideal for a bit of a binge watch. Xmas Grin

all this is quite interesting

This is such a strange comment I’m PMSL, think it’s all getting to me now Grin

NotSorry · 10/04/2020 09:27

I’ve been watching Christmas films I recorded but didn’t get round to watching, Takes my mind off the news

mogtheexcellent · 10/04/2020 11:04

Hallmark are apparently having christmas films on repeat to help lift people's moods over the lockdown. Loads on youtube anyhow.

The bad news is filming has shut down for many Hallmark films due to be released later this year. I enjoy the aurora teagarden series and the filming has been halted on that Blush

mogtheexcellent · 10/04/2020 11:05

And yes @raffle weird indeed!

Papergirl1968 · 10/04/2020 11:18

Another fan of made for TV movies here.
I can recommend the channel 5 afternoon movies too. And the True Movies channels! Smile

Doingtheboxerbeat · 12/04/2020 22:46

I have to be in the mood for these, especially on a hot sunny day in July. They can be great Sunday afternoon, hangover telly if Columbo's not on any of the channels.

NotSorry · 25/09/2020 19:34

Bumping this Sony 24 Christmas channel started yesterday Grin

PrivateSpidey · 07/10/2020 23:55

Yes I noticed that as well Not! Purely by chance of course.

I haven't actually watched any Christmas films yet, but there seem to be a few autumn/Halloween ones around at the mo. I watched one on Netflix recently: "October Kiss" Grin It was a classic of the genre!

That's sad about Aurora Teagarden @mogtheexcellent (just to reply to your post from months ago!) - I'm also a fan of that. The actress who plays Lyn, the detective from Aurora Teagarden, was also in October Kiss Grin

mogtheexcellent · 08/10/2020 07:05

@PrivateSpidey dont worry covid friendly filming resumed in july! I have a soft spot for Arthur who also starred albeit briefly in A Christmas Lodge.

PrivateSpidey · 08/10/2020 09:43

Oh thanks mog that's a relief!

I'm also a fan of Arthur.

Have to admit we’ve started early in this house. Hallmark channel week free on Amazon prime, soooo

Hearty recommended

  • Christmas getaway
  • a veteran’s christmas
  • a Christmas homecoming
  • a Christmas to remember

And quite passable Rocky Mountain Christmas ; Christmas in Evergreen; I love you like Christmas

Slightly grittier for Hallmark Grin a Christmas Secret

Tried to maintain a bit of balance with non Christmas films. Stand out so far Love and Sunshine, and a couple of just after new year films A winter weekend with spoiler alert the follow up a Winter Proposal

NotSorry · 02/11/2020 00:06

Watched Christmas runaway bride tonight- bit cheesy but we enjoyed it

FagashJackie · 02/11/2020 00:18

Christmas Crush, complete with a character who hasn't got a paid speaking role, so has to communicate his emotions through facial expressions and body language. It has a song and as much cheese and ham as you'd need to get through to spring.

www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/netflix-christmas-film-princess-switch-holidate-b1724173.html

whilst not Hallmark the Independent have done a somewhat tongue in cheek top 12 Netflix Originals Christmas films - the Knight before Christmas is clearly the worthy winner. Some of the other placements could be subject to debate. :)

offradik · 04/05/2021 05:22

I like to watch ust In Time for Christmas
