Opinions please , is it suitable to watch with 2 and 4 year olds? Thanks.

Yes it is fine there is the ghosts but they are not scary imo and if your kids don't like you can just switch it off, my dd is 21 and I think she was 4 when she first watched it and it is still her favourite Christmas film.

Squigean · 02/11/2019 12:14

Best Christmas film ever. Fact.

Are they easily scared? There's ghost in it which might upset a small child, so fully depends on their sensitivity.

Dollywilde · 02/11/2019 12:14

I don’t have kids but love this movie so much... I do wonder if the bit just before the end is a bit too spooky? You can always fast forward from when Gonzo disappears until he comes back Wink

JoyceDivision · 02/11/2019 12:14

Oh definately! It is such a lovely film!

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 02/11/2019 12:16

Yes.
Definitely.
Absolutely.

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/11/2019 12:16

It's the best Christmas film ever, they will be fine. I may watch next week when I'm on my own so no one will interrupt.

Maykid · 02/11/2019 12:18

Brilliant, I want to watch it with my grandkids this year but have never seen it myself.

This is hands down the best adaptation of the Dickens classic. I will fight anyone who says otherwise! 😂.

Might be a bit scary in parts for young kids though, also the bit with Tiny Tim never fails to make me cry.

Squigean · 02/11/2019 12:27

@Maykid common sense media is a good reference for things you don't know:

www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/the-muppet-christmas-carol

Gives you an idea what's in a film if you haven't seen it, and different opinions on its age suitability.

Dollywilde · 02/11/2019 12:29

Haha maybe I’m out of line - like I say I don’t have kids yet but the ghost of Christmas yet to come still spooks me and I’m 30 Grin

Icantreachthepretzels · 02/11/2019 12:32

Yes the last ghost is scary but the rest of the film is absolutely joyous and wonderful. Definitely watch - just fast forward through that little section, if you have to.

I'm off to watch the ghost of christmas present's song on you tube now...

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 02/11/2019 21:45

Oh god @JenniR29 - Tiny Tim gets me every time too! Although does anyone remember the original cut with the song on the bridge and Belle sings and Michale Caine joins in but she can't see him because it's just a memory and he regrets losing her so so much and he's crying and singing and then I'm crying and crying...

They cut it from the DVD release and I'm so grateful because it's saved me a fortune in mascara.

Lolly86 · 02/11/2019 21:47

It's a travesty the song was cut from the DVD Zelda...
Best xmas movie everGrin

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 02/11/2019 21:47

...and I get my school choir to do It Feels Like Christmas every year because it's the BEST even if it does have five key changes

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 02/11/2019 21:51

It IS a travesty, because it was beautiful, but it does make me ugly cry every single time.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 02/11/2019 21:53

It's absolutely suitable.

🎵 It's in the singing of a street corner choir
It's going home and getting warm by the fire
It's true, wherever you find love
It feels like Christmas 🎵

Icantreachthepretzels · 03/11/2019 00:37

Here it is in all it's glory @ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule

cutting it doesn't even make sense because at the end Scrooge sings 'the love we share' to the same tune... but if you never saw the original cut of the film then this is a brand new song wedged in in the last two minuted of the film!

JenniR29 · 03/11/2019 06:35

@ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule omg yes! That song is heartbreaking!

I love the song at the end though, Thankful Heart makes me all warm and fuzzy.

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 03/11/2019 12:20

@Icantreachthepretzels I'm crying into the cup of tea DH just brought me - he thought I'd gone loopy until I explained what I'd just watched and then he totally understood.

And you're right - the final song makes way more sense if this one's in, because he changes the words when he realises he's found love again and that's more important than money.

Mitsouko67 · 06/11/2019 08:35

Bringing the kids in December, great to get this critique ahead of time.Smile

Have seen it before. Looking forward to it.
A bit obsessed with A Christmas Carol in all its versions.

PrivateSpidey · 28/11/2019 00:08

Yes by far the best adaptation of A Christmas Carol, I agree. The Ghost of Christmas yet to come is a bit frightening but as pp said, you can fast forward the bit when Gonzo says it's going to get scary.

I love it though. I think Tiny Tim is always a bit ott in the human versions, whereas as a frog he's not trying to tug at the heartstrings quite so blatantly (which makes it even sadder).

Zelda I want to go to your school Christmas assembly! "A pair of mittens that was made by your mother" etc. Brilliant.

My favourite scene is Bob and the bookkeepers asking for more coal for the fire ("Our assets are frozen!") Grin

Soon2BeMumof3 · 28/11/2019 00:13

I love this movie.

But it is terrifying for small children. There are ghosts and monsters. It's very eerie and sad in parts.

I'd skip it until they are older and have a better grasp of what's real and what's not

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/11/2019 00:19

IME DC dont get scared by movies until they're 6yo - 8yo. The rest of them go with the songs and utterly christmassy muppetry of it all.Grin

Sgtmajormummy · 28/11/2019 00:31

“There goes Mister Humbug, there goes Mister Grim.
If they gave a prize for being mean the winner would be him.
Don’t ask him for a favour ‘cause his nastiness increases.
No crust of bread for those in need
^No cheeses for us meeces^!”

Classic.

CarterJ32 · 04/12/2019 14:09

It's such an amazing film! But, the spirit of christmas-yet-to-come is pretty scary. I think it might be a bit too scary overall but it really depends on the children and how sensitive they are
