So saw it with my dc and mum today. Dd (21) and I felt it was a bit pointless - didn't really add anything.

The you get ones liked Forky but were disappointed that the old gang were left out for most of it.

I wondered how they got 'Andy' off the foot - I can never get Sharpie out of anything.

Also wanted Andy to have a summer job at the fair.

Didn't like the doll story - a small kid was wailing away at the dummies.

I thought it was ok but I think It’s an “emotional journey” of all the films- my teenage nephew was in tears but I found myself not really caring where Forky was! Worth a watch though xx

lavenderbluedilly · 23/06/2019 22:52

My teen DS announced that Toy Story had been ruined for him, as we left the cinema. I’ve mixed feelings about it, and didn’t like the ending.

Terriere · 24/06/2019 00:06

I thought it was better than Toy Story 3 which I found excessively grim and nasty - this was funnier but had far too many toy characters maybe for the merchandising? They seemed to have lost the point of Buzz completely.

The dummies were great - very scary, and there's a cracking Randy Newman song near the start, I've just been listening to it again.

Hopefully they'll leave it at 4 but the cinema was packed so I expect they'll be tempted to squeeze more out of it.

SouthWestmom · 24/06/2019 04:41

I didn't find it emotional at alll. Didn't care about Forky (found it faintly ridiculous tbh, also not v realistic that the kid would be so upset)
Some of it was funny but I didn't recall the great love story to justify them being split up at the end. Especially as they had to do the little sequence to 'remind' us.
It was very well animated with some funny bits though.

I think the message for me personally is that children don’t really need all those toys .. they are usually happy with the simple things in life .. just my take on it and I enjoyed it ... the humour too

bakedbeanzontoast · 25/06/2019 23:30

I think they need to stop making them now. The fork was annoying and there wasn't enough Buzz for my liking.

trackingmedown · 26/06/2019 10:33

It was hugely disappointing. They should have stopped at TS3 which was a masterpiece. I actually fell asleep at one point, I think because I had no emotional engagement with any of the characters.

Nouef Try a few squirts of cheap hairspray to remove Sharpie. (Elnett works too but it’s expensive!)

SouthWestmom · 26/06/2019 10:43

Ooh thanks for the Sharpie tip.

It was also the same story over and over - motor home / shop/ motor home/ shop/ motor home etc

I liked it but was expected to be more blown away. Wasn't really needed and I liked the ending for the 3rd this was just meh.

Agree lots of characters underused and it did repeat.. A lot!

Ledehe · 30/06/2019 00:04

It was a bit of a disappointment. That must be the series done for good now

Toitoitoi · 02/07/2019 22:26

Didn't like it at all really. It is not a patch on the other threee.

twosoups1972 · 07/07/2019 21:30

Saw it today and I was disappointed too. Much prefer 2 and 3. Surprised as the all the reviews have been amazing.

BastilleKillers15 · 09/07/2019 23:43

I loved the film, but those ventriloquist style dummies freaked me out a bit 😟, I really liked forky and Duke caboom, they made me chuckle. I'm just so gutted and am still kicking myself for not staying until the very very end!

polyhymnia · 10/07/2019 21:14

Wondering about taking my two DGC to see it.
Think the 5 year old would probably enjoy it but doubtful about 3 year old - specially having now read PPs' comments about 'spooky' dummies. What do people who've seen it think?

BastilleKillers15 · 10/07/2019 21:41

I would still go see it, I mean with the dummies, I got used to them eventually and I guess with the 3 year old, they could look away or cover their eyes if they get scared? I would have loved to take mine to see it but I don't think she would have sat still for the whole film haha

doodlejump1980 · 10/07/2019 21:46

I was disappointed that there wasn’t a Pixar short at the beginning of the film. Loved it though, saw the first one when I was 19, now my kids are starting nursery so felt quite relatable. I wept at the end!

Girliefriendlikescake · 10/07/2019 21:59

I didn't like the whole story line about Woodys voice box, seemed weird and the fact that a horrible character was not so horrible after she had bullied Woody into giving it to her 😒

Toy story 1 and 3 are my favourites.

Buzznbells · 10/07/2019 22:00

Absolutely loved it!
It wasn't about Forky for me but Woody's journey from being Andy's favourite and devoted toy , Molly's forgotten toy left in the cupboard to being a lost toy with Bo. He'd always put his dedication as a toy first and was now making the choice to leave that for "love.
Yea I wish there had been more Buzz, Ham, Slinky etc but I loved Bunny and Chick.
I was stupidly emotional about Woody leaving Buzz ( and no I didn't find the toys holding hands at the furnace in Toy Story 3 emotional at all ).
And I found the whole removal of the voice box disturbing.
But me and my teen DC all said it was one of the best Toy Storys!

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 10/07/2019 22:03

I loved the first 3 but this was meh
Forky was annoying and how many times can toy's chase around looking for a lost toy
IMO it should have stopped at 3

WishUponAStar88 · 10/07/2019 22:04

polyhymnia my 2 and 4 yr olds both enjoyed it. 4 yr old scares easily at films (hid for 10mins at Mary Poppins Grin) but there were only a couple of very brief episodes that worried her.

Flipmation · 17/07/2019 12:31

Hated it. The toys we all care about were stuck in the RV for most of it, doing nothing. The joke about Forky wanting to go in the trash was played out far too long and wasn't funny. Buzz was acting like a space ranger again with none of the sense and nobility we know he has. And the ending? Awful...went against every part of Woody's character. I'm just going to pretend this film doesn't exist...and that the story ended with three. What would Andy think, having entrusted Woody to Bonnie only for her to lose him? It was awful.

Enclume · 17/07/2019 12:39

Loved the film. Proper laughed out loud at the Bunny and Chick fantasy episodes, and I loved the Keanu-voiced Kaboom rider character. My favourite Toy Story since the first, which came out when I was the same age my eldest is now. misty-eyed

1066vegan · 28/07/2019 20:07

I saw it last night and loved it. Went with dp who thought it was ok and with teen dd and her friend who both enjoyed it

I liked the new characters although the ventriloquist dummies were seriously creepy. But I do agree with others that we didn't see enough of the old gang.

For me, there was a good mixture of humour, tension and poignant moments as well as plenty to think about. Mark Kermode's review on YouTube is an interesting watch.

WanderingTrolley1 · 15/08/2019 06:57

The children and I loved TS4 - especially Forky!
