Basically what the title says, what are your best film suggestions for a family movie night with a 5 and 6 year old.

Off the top of my head we have watched:

The goonies
The witches
The Labyrinth
Star wars
Mrs Doubtfire
ET
The wizard of oz

Night in the museum series
Jurassic Parks series
Ds is 4 but older siblings so maybe older 'taste' in films!

sleepismysuperpower1 · 08/11/2018 18:12

moana
trolls
ella enchanted (on netflix)
basically any disney movie :)

Mummyshark2018 · 08/11/2018 18:19

Goonies was too mature for my 7 year old and turned it off after 10 minutes. It's rated 12 (only realised after a few minutes!
Moana
Coco
Frozen
Home alone
Greatest showman
Toy story

Mamabear12 · 08/11/2018 19:02

Thanks all. Perhaps we will try Jurassic pack. I know my son would love. Not easy to always please them both (and us!). We have watched a lot of Disney films so want something new for movie night. Greatest showman is another one i might try. My dh mentioned it as well. As for the goodies, my kids watched it, but they didn’t love it lol. It takes time for it to get interesting. I remember I really enjoyed it as a kid.

The Greatest Showman

A bit scared to admit this one but Pitch Perfect
Dispicable Me
Big Hero 6
Boss Baby

Essexmummy88 · 08/11/2018 19:25

Oliver?

Magnificentbeast · 08/11/2018 19:27

Agree. Zootropolis is great. Also love Moana.
Minions
Despicable Me - particularly number 3 with all of the 80s references.
Kiki's Delivery Service
Both Paddington films

We had to turn Goonies off almost straightaway. Just a bit too much grown up.

Spudina · 08/11/2018 19:29

Maleficent. My neighbour Totoro (a whimsical Japanese anime). First Harry Potter?

Petalflowers · 08/11/2018 19:33

I think Jurassicmpark May be scRy for young kids.

Have you watched all the old Disney films?
Dumbo
Bambi
chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Charlie and the chocolate factory
Mary Poppins etc

Also, what about old Disney movies staring Hayley Mills such as The Parent Trap?

Railway children
Whistle down the wind
Annie

(Nb Haven’t checked age ratings)

Alex3101 · 08/11/2018 19:35

Both the Paddington films, DS1 who is about to turn 4 loves them. (As do we all)

bakebakebake · 08/11/2018 19:35

Harry Potter.
Fantastic Beasts.

I think Jurassic World would be better.. We watched that when ours were 4 & 5 (we had already seen it) and they loved it. But I remember being terrified after Jurassic Park as a child. Jurassic World 2 is apparently much scarier.

We have girl 5 and boy 6, they enjoy watching Marvel movies, Disney.

I actually watched Rio 2 (on my own) today and quite enjoyed it. I had put it on for the baby, thought the colours would be nice but he went to sleep and I was already invested.

neversleepagain · 08/11/2018 19:35

My girls are 6 and family favourites are...
The Goonies
Mrs Doubtfire
Princess Bride
Hocus Pocus
Neverending Story
ET
Back to the Future
Cheaper by the Dozen
Daddy Daycare

Petalflowers · 08/11/2018 19:36

Also, High School Musical 1, 2 and 3 (1 and 2 are good, not so sure about 3) - the ‘in’ film when mine were younger

driggle · 08/11/2018 19:36

7yr old DS (who rarely sits through a whole film) loves...

School of Rock
Flubber
Wreck-it Ralph
Despicable Me (particularly number 2)
Boss Baby
Harry Potter
Lego Movie
Lego Ninjago

megletthesecond · 08/11/2018 19:36

Paddington.
Mary Poppins.

flowerycurtain · 08/11/2018 19:37

Some great ideas here

OneStepMoreFun · 08/11/2018 19:38

The Incredibles
Toy Story
Monsters Inc
Beauty & The Beast
G-Force
Bee Movie
Home Alone

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 08/11/2018 19:38

The Lorax is very underrated but such a fab film.

Also highly recommend
Toy story
Matlida
Despicable Me
and other older classics.

Failing that anything by Studio Ghibli.

Mamabear12 · 08/11/2018 21:35

Thanks for all the great suggestions! I forgot about parent trap! I LOVED that. I think my dd would too. My son might find it boring though lol. But if he pays attention he might like it. My dd loved Matilda. She has watched it so many times and I sent her to the musical with her grandparents.

My 5 year old has has watched and enjoyed most of the movies on your list. Jurassic Park would be too scary - aren't there some gory bits where people get eaten by dinosaurs?

We've also watched and enjoyed freaky Friday (the original) and the Princess bride.

Janus · 15/11/2018 12:08

Secret life of pets is good!
Coco was lovely.
Latest Jurassic movie too scary and final scenes of people being (realistically!) eaten by dinosaurs!!
Peter Pan of 2003 (not a cartoon and not with Robin Williams!) is one of the most magical films, we’ve watched it about 20 times as a family!!

partyoffour · 15/11/2018 12:11

Nanny McPhee
Night in the Museum
Narnia
Boss Baby
