Do you try and avoid too much knowledge about the story behind a favourite film?

I do. For me it would take away some of the magic of the film, watching a particular scene and thinking 'Oh, that's when they had to do this....' etc etc. I've seen some 'The Making Of...' type books about a few favourite films but I never want to read them just because of that reason.

I'm totally the opposite. As soon as I finish a film I have to go on IMDB to find out as many facts about the film as I can. I'm really interested in how films are made and for me it enhances the magic in a weird sort of way.

Depends on the film. Discovering Gangs of New York is largely true made me really re-evaluate that film.
Rob Cohen's commentary on The Fast and the Furious (1) [stay with me here] was really interesting, as he puts the film through the lens of being a Western.
There's some interesting bits about horse training in LOTR ROTK extras, but too much of this kinda kills the suspension of disbelief

In my family we have someone who has phonophobia, so they always check out facts about the film beforehand to see where the loud sounds are!
