Rented this last night, DH and I watched first with puzzled expressions which quickly turned to ShockShockShock.

Needless to say, it has stayed with me today and I'm still turning it over in my mind trying to make some sense of it!

Anyone have great insights? Grin

It is mental isn’t it?! It’s supposedly all biblical stories but I thought it was just self indulgent, showing-off mind fuckery which is tragic as Jennifer Lawrence is just so GOOD. Ugh the ‘party food’ scene

We rented it with a free dvd thinking might make a good present for MiL, I don’t hate anyone that much!

I've not seen it but isn't it an allegory about how we're trashing the earth? JL as mother earth.
The reviews were interesting.

I had never heard of it and literally knew nothing about it until last night! The short description given on the planner was SO misleading!

I can see the parallels with biblical lessons etc although the premise doesn't seem to flow or 'work' throughout the film?

Eg. Is the baby supposed to represent Jesus? (Which is what struck me when she was screaming to Javier Bardem "they've killed our son". But then, does that make her Mary or still Mother Earth?

Ermmm.... I had to look it up hahaha. Not gana lie it all went a bit over my head.. Thought was just don't let people into your home or the other woman was going to take over then all went a bit mad.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 04/05/2018 12:47

That's what we thought from the description! Grin Was expecting a home invasion type thriller/horror!

I totally agree, what a messed up, twisted film! My partner is a horror film director (indie) and I help produce them and even we were shocked and we have seen some seriously mental films!! I’m still not really over it!! Lol!

However, I have to really commend Jennifer Lawrence on her performance playing such a difficult and demanding role...something both partner and I agreed on!

I watched this with my husband (who is a bit of a film buff). I wasn't keen. It seems like another film just for male directors to get off putting women through hell, not a fan of just watching Jennifer Lawrence suffer horrendously for two hours in the name of "art".

blaabloodyblaa · 06/06/2018 14:21

It was so boring I fell asleep.

KellyBailey · 06/06/2018 17:39

Watched it last night, I wouldn't exactly say I "enjoyed" it as I found it very claustrophobic and unsettling to watch but it was certainly gripping. Jennifer Lawrence is wonderful in her role.

sharkirasharkira · 21/06/2018 22:43

I watched it recently and, even though I love JL I was so disappointed!

I wasn't really sure what to expect but..well..it wasn't that. It was so bizarre and didn't really seem to have a proper plot. Just weird from start to finish and very hard to follow. I kept finding myself fast forwarding to try and find the exciting bits or bits where something actually happened..

Yeah it was just very very strange.

bluetongue · 24/06/2018 09:06

I watched it this weekend, along with ‘Get Out’. Expected there to be some kind of ‘a-ha’ moment where all was explained but there wasn’t. If someone can please tell me what on earth was going on with the house and why JL had to keep drinking that fluorescent drink it would be appreciated!

My first reaction was that JB (why did none of the characters have names?) was the devil and the baby the antichrist but who knows.

Can thouroughly recommend Get Out though Grin

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 25/08/2018 00:43

Unrelated but thought I'd pop back to highly recommend "A Quiet Place" with Emily Blunt, I was on the edge of my seat all the way through! Really good nerve jangler!
