Well as we don't get to the Cinema anymore so got it for home consumption!
Thought it was great and would really recommend it, Scarlett J was brilliant (as was Bill Murray) - but considering her age etc it seemed to me quite a performance.
Anybody else like it?

I really loved it. I thought it would be a learning experience for dh as I have in the past been brought along to foreign cities and then left to amuse myself while DH works long hours. I've done all that wandering around looking at things, and sitting around the hotel room waiting for him to come back so we can have dinner, then giving up and going to sleep. I loved that slightly dreamworld quality in the film, it's exactly what mild culture shock is like. But dh thought the Scarlett character was being unreasonable, after all she was getting a free holiday and her husband was there to work not to entertain her.

DH also thought that there's no way those characters would form a friendship, but I know that when you're that bored and lonely seeing someone who speaks the same language twice in a row is a good enough reason to start a conversation.

You're right about Scarlett, I don't think the film would have been nearly as good with someone else in her role.

They had a great rapport- and Scarlett has that sort of face that can portray loads with just a blink.
I loved the film on lots of levels- but particularly as it didn't go to the expected one (won't say for those who haven't seen it!)

Can you remember the end Bran- what on earth do you think he said to her?
(bit like a MN caption comp!)

We both loved it too, a bit ambiguous, original but also lots of mainstream aspects. Loved the Karaoke God Save the Queen! I got it on DVD a couple of months ago from Amazon.com, films often come out quicker in the USA and are cheaper so I always check there for something I'm desperate to have.

I absolutely loved this film, think Bill Murray is an acting god anyway, his face is superb. Also, SJ actually has a normal body, she has a pot belly.

Oh I loved this film , I love that atmostphere in hotels like that. It just had a lovely calm atmostphere the film & bits with Bill were quite funny.

I was thinking of travelling to far east with dh on business in September but after seeing that Im not so sure.

Unicorn, dh and I discussed that for a while, I thought he said something romantic and gently humourous, needless to say dh's suggestions were a bit cruder. We replayed the scene a couple of times, but couldn't figure out what was said.

Thought Bill hit nail on head when he was talking about having kids... how your life changes completely etc...
Bran (and others) at the end (the denouement??!!!!)
I thought he said something like 'don't worry you'll be fine....(and).. I know that we will meet again.."!!!!! any other suggestions??

Saw this last night, loved it.

Anyone work out what he was whispering to her at the end?

NomDePlume · 04/09/2004 13:22

Both DH and I thought it was crap !!!!

We usually love people-watching films but it was completely go-nowhere, do-nothing. Pointless waste of hours, IMO, and totally nowhere near worth all the hype it got. Desperately disappointing. I much preferred Magnolia and About Schmidt as people-watching movies.
