How can I rent films? Fed up with netflix and missing lovefilm

That's it really.
I'm not very clued up on technology, so out of touch. Just about upgraded my bt broadband to a faster speed.
I have amazon prime and the film selection is really awful..
Had netflix for about a month and again, completely shocked about the amount of rubbish available... Have sat through some dire films.

Want to watch some of my favourite old classics without having to have to buy them, also want access to a good selection of world cinema...
Any suggestions? My local library has a very disappointing selection.
I used to live in crouch end and the selection was great.

Thanks and please explain anything technical in simple terms!

Tia

Do you have an Apple account? There's lots of choice of films to rent on iTunes.

Giraffeski · 02/04/2018 18:54

You can rent films on Amazon video, also as pp has said on iTunes.

duplodancer · 02/04/2018 18:56

Just rent them from amazon and then watch them through your amazon prime app! Search for whatever film you like and find the amazon video option, then choose 'rent' in the buying options. Once you've done that it'll appear in the library of your amazon video app.
Someone showed me this just the other day and it's made my month Smile

You can rent most things off amazon.

You could try now tv if your wanting a subscription service, I enjoy it, 9.99 a month for movies and can stop at anytime. Plus can usually find good offers for less than that.

You can rent from Apple too but amazon are cheaper I think.

TheUncommonReader · 02/04/2018 19:07

You can rent films just like Lovefilm used to here www.cinemaparadiso.co.uk/

Thanks everyone for the replies!
Couple of questions
If I rent through amazon can I watch on my TV (not a smart TV)?
Re now TV, is there a broad selection with current and old classics ?
Going to look up cinema paradiso now...
Thank you again everyone

Rakuten app on the TV (used to be Wuaki).

IrenetheQuaint · 03/04/2018 18:16

Cinema Paradiso has a fantastic range of films. I would heartily recommend it.

My parents have practically become hermits since getting Now TV.

KirstenRaymonde · 03/04/2018 18:18

@stirling do you have a laptop and a TV with and HDMI port in the back? If so you can connect your laptop to your TV with and HDMI cable and watch anything from the laptop on the TV screen

stirling · 03/04/2018 19:08

Brilliant advice, feel like I'm making progress...
Yep looked up the listings on cinema paradiso and impressed.
Got a laptop and yes there's a hdmi port in TV...
No idea what a kodi box is but about to Google.

You're all great, thanks again

Roku is an alternative box that might be worth considering. That is what I used before my new tv.
