Can anyone recommend a good black and white film preferably with a strong female lead character?

Bringing Up Baby - Katharine Hepburn
All About Eve - Bette Davies
Mildred Pierce - Joan Crawford
Casablanca - Ingrid Bergman

If you want a more modern film , Juno is good

Don't know about strong female leads but two of my favourite B&W films are Mrs Deeds Goes to Town and Brief Encounter.

Also (the Mumsnet favourite term) Gaslight is a good film. It has a young Angela Lansbury in it.

Sorry, just realised they were for Mother's Day. Probably not suitable then Should've read your title properly.

Some Like it Hot is great (only black and white because they couldn’t get the drag to work in colour).
I love The Philadelphia Story but there’s no denying that it’s horrendous from a feminist perspective
Personally I think you can’t go wrong with Fred and Ginge. Swing Time and Shall We Dance are my favourites.

A strong female lead is preferred but not necessary.
