I'm lucky enough to have a day to myself this week and plan to go to the cinema. Both Darkest Hour and Shape of Water are on at a suitable time and I think both look great but I can't decide which one to see! Your recommendations please x

Darkest Hour, I very much enjoyed it, not that The Shape of Water was bad just ok, entertaining in a bit to try hard kind of way.

But I think it will the Oscar as its different, if not the best.

I wasn't keen on Darkest Hour, I was clock watching but quite enjoyed The Shape of Water though it's not as good as The Labyrinth by the same director.
I preferred both 3 Billboards and Lady bird.

I liked Darkest Hour more than I thought. Shape of Water was lovely but not amazing.

Like Fussy I preferred Three Billboards - thought it was brilliant. I haven't seen Ladybird (my DD is seeing it right now with friends).

Thank you everyone. I probably won't get to go now (was meant to be going tomorrow but the weather is to be terrible so might be stuck indoors 😡) I'm leaning towards Darkest Hour. I've already seen 3 Billboards and absolutely loved it!

I enjoyed both very much but The Shape of Water is the stand-out film of the season for me

Shape of Water by a mile!

Saw Shape of Water yesterday and was very disappointed by it, especially as it won the Oscar. It was suprisingly conventional given the fantastical premise and also quite unpleasantly violent in places.

Haven't seen Darkest Hour tho' so can't actually answer your question - after watching John Lithgow in The Crown I wasn't in the mood for another Churchill!
