Harry Potter - is it just me or...

I love Harry Potter, but one thing I've noticed is that while the first four films feel like seperate films, the last four feel like one long, extended dark film. I appreciate the story does get much darker but the colouring / production itself (I don't know the terms) all look the same whereas there was something different and magical about each of the first four.

Yep they do get darker. Have you seen the evolution of the Warner brothers logo through the films, it shows it there.

I wouldn't have minded one or two more directed like the first few. :-)

Jk Rowling wanted Terry Gilliam to direct the films, I think the closest we get to his style is the third, Alfonso Cuarón has a similar "make lots of stuff happen in the background" approach.

Chris Columbus was chosen for the first two because of his track record with making child actors act half decently. He's the one who decided to make the movies get darker and more shadowy, the others then carried it on.

justaguy I love those two frames of Dumbledore's desk, really highlights how visually dark the series got.
