Haven't seen it, but seen loads of reviews and they all say it's good.

roisin · 27/04/2007 18:13

I read poor reviews, so we didn't go.

collision · 27/04/2007 18:13

It isnt on at my cinema so I am wondering what it is!!

fryalot · 27/04/2007 18:16

It's about William Wilberforce, who campaigned to abolish slavery.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/04/2007 18:16

I have seen it and I loved it but it depends on who you are I think. I love Ioan Gruffudd and especially in Georgian costume, and I am a complete history and politics nut so I knew all about the history and politics side of it (and it there is no other side, really, apart from a bit of personal stuff about Wilberforce) but if that is not your thing, then don't go.

multitasker · 27/04/2007 18:17

I had wanted to see The Painted Veil but its not on. All I know about this one is that its about the abolition of slavery and it has the very yummy Ioan Gruffud in it.....

DumbledoresGirl · 27/04/2007 18:18

It isn't really about slavery as such, but about the campaign to abolish it, so lots of political speeches and the like. But it has gently humour in it too - it is not Panorama!

multitasker · 27/04/2007 18:18

DDore - I am a history nut too - not sure if DH is though .
Why is it so hard to get dh to go to the cinems and sooo hard to agree on a film!!

fryalot · 27/04/2007 18:19

This is England is out today, and I read good reviews about that.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/04/2007 18:19

Multitasker, if you like Ioan, go anyway. He is the most gorgeous man in the history of mankind IMO and he is on the screen pretty much all the time.

bakedpotato · 27/04/2007 18:20

v-e-r-y dull and slow
it felt like a crappy telly movie to me

DumbledoresGirl · 27/04/2007 18:20

S*d dh. He can choose the next film!

DumbledoresGirl · 27/04/2007 18:20

Dull and slow? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I loved it. Best film I have seen in the cinema for a very long time.

collision · 27/04/2007 18:21

Why not go to the pub instead?

bakedpotato · 27/04/2007 18:22

I wanted to leave 20 mins in, but our seats were in the middle and I couldn't face the tutting

DumbledoresGirl · 27/04/2007 18:22

Where are you MT? I will come with you and watch it again happily.

I am already planning on getting it when it comes out on dvd.

multitasker · 27/04/2007 18:23

Alrighty - we're going. Dh is going to grumble anyway.

fryalot · 27/04/2007 18:23

Get your dh to come round here and babysit. I'll come and see it with you

DumbledoresGirl · 27/04/2007 18:24

Hope you enjoy it [anxious emoticon]

multitasker · 27/04/2007 18:27

I think I'm a bit out of your way ddgirl - just west of Belfast! Could go to the pub I suppose but since I drink less (can't do hangovers with 3dc on the bed at 7am)I would probably have to drive.
Anyway I've to get up early - confirmation is on and I've to go with a neice - no doubt the bishop will talk for atleast an hour on what will be the hottest day of the year.

DumbledoresGirl · 27/04/2007 18:28

The hottest day of the year so far I hope.

multitasker · 28/04/2007 08:28

Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.............
The best film I've seen this year. Super acting. I'm into history but I defy anyone not to shed a tear at the end.

I am so pleased you liked it! I loved it too, but that period of history is my great love, and IG is one of my men on pedestals so it was inevitable I would. I was a bit worried I overrated it yesterday though, especially when others said it was boring.

multitasker · 28/04/2007 13:16

Thanks DDgirl, I shall consult with your wise self on all other future cinema visits.
Think dh liked it - I didn't hear too many grumbles. Isn't Ioann Gruffudd gorgeous!! But I think the film was a great ensemble piece - I found Albert Finneys performance very moving.
Right - have to go mingle with the relatives - just been to confirmation and could now eat a small horse.
