Just been watching this on BBC2, wow, depressing stuff. Anyone else seen it?

yes, saw it when it was at cinema, agree it was enormously depressing.

The book was good, but very depressing!

I think I'll leave the book well alone then.

I thought that it was a fab book and was interested to see the film last night.

The book raised some challenging points such as who was 'in the right' and how that balanced against cultural beliefs and racism.

I thought the film really lived-up to the book. I was worried that it wouldn't and that you wouldn't particularly grasp the years of double-life and pure grind that the Persian father went through to provide his family with an American life. My dh hadn't read the book and by the end of the film I was sobbing and he was manfully sniffing.

Really, really good.
