Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit - which movie should we watch first

Possibly a dumb question but I need a quick answer for this evening - I'm going to start watching these with the dcs - which film do I start with?

I'd start with LOTR because the hobbit films were so crap they might put you off! That's just me though...

LOTR have spectacularly well. Unlike The Hobbit!

If you want to do them in the 'right' order as in the book order then 'The Hobbit first' But it really doesnt matter. Both sets of films are fine on their own merits. The Hobbit explains how Bilbo came to have the ring (some explaination relevant to Dwarf/Elven distrust but not imperative, the trolls that Bilbo mentions etc) but also a whole lot more that isn't carried on in LOTR.

I would do them in the right order myself for first time but then we watch them a lot anyway!

Definitely LOTR, they are good films!! The Hobbit wasn't so good.

The film of The Hobbit is utter crap, and I say this as a Tolkien fan. Watch the LOTR films in order and imagine yourself in an Aragorn-Boromir sandwich.

I agree that the LOTR films are much, much better than The Hobbit.

In my opinion The Hobbit would have been better if they had made one film, rather than stretching the story out into 3.
