That has to be the most creepy and thoroughly depressing films I've ever seen

But so great! I loved it. Was so disappointed with the Nicole Kidman version.

bionicant · 12/04/2017 07:41

love it so good, ending is just so perfect, i didn't realise there was a remake

DragonNoodleCake · 12/04/2017 08:15

The ending is what made me depressed!
I just can't believe that every one of the men wanted it. That's what creeps me out the most.

I remember being a fairly young teen when I watched it and it scared the crap out of me. For many years, no one else knew what I meant when I described something as being very Stepford Wives.

I didn't like the Nicole Kidman remake either, I don't know if it's because I was much older so it didn't scare me or if it was just because it was rubbish.

I loved the line about "I'll just die if I don't get that recipe" Was it Nanette Newman? Somethng happened to her circuitry and she kept saying it. My brother and I were always saying that if anything tasted good.

That's why it's so great. Like Rosemary's Baby, The Wicker Man and Invasion of The Body Snatchers

I love the original Stepford Wives movie, it's brilliant!
I made the mistake of watching the Nicole Kidman remake of it before I'd ever watched the original, so when I watched the original I couldn't believe how much they'd massacred such a brilliant film!
It's absolutely awful compared to the original, totally saccharined it. Angry

Soo much better than the re-make.

MsAmerica · 03/07/2017 21:06

It's strange how wildly different in tone the two versions are, isn't it?

I once saw a review - not sure if it was about this, or Rosemary's Baby - saying that Ira Levin was very good at illustrating how men are willing to do anything to women.

Totally creepy.

QuitMoaning · 09/07/2017 22:28

Ira levin also wrote a superb book called This Perfect Day.

I loved the original Stepford Wife's, so atmospheric and creepy. Extremely well done.
The eyes were the scariest bit.
