Should I watch Birdman or Boyhood?

Travelling on a Virgin train tomorrow so was going to watch a film. Should I watch Birdman or Boyhood?

Bird man! If you like off the wall, artsy type films. I loved it

I thought birdman was dreadful. Didn't like any of the characters. Boyhood is a bit slow but the novelty of having the children age over how ever many years makes it an interesting watch. I vote boyhood!

Some of my favourite films are: My Own Private Idaho, Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet, Benny and Joon, What's Eating Gilbert Grape - to give you an idea of the type of films I like.

After watching Boyhood my main feeling was of regret that I would not get those hours of my life back. Interesting concept and could have been good if shorter. But it was like they thought we have been filming for years so we must keep ALL the footage I'm.

Just looked what else I can watch. What about Grand Budapest Hotel or Gone Girl?

Bird man I just didn't 'get it'. I don't really like clever, artsy films, I think, like being John malkovitch, etc. It was ok but not great and I didn't care that much about the characters.

Boyhood I loved. I loved watching the characters age, it was just a simple story but I thought well acted and I liked the actors.
I liked what's eating GG (so many years ago!) and Romeo + Juliet though not seen the others.
I thought gone girl was a really good watch (I love rosamund pike) but not a brilliant film if you know what I mean, whereas boyhood was really a bit different with the filming over the years.
Enjoy watching a film anyway!

Never seen Birdman, but loved Boyhood a lot. I like the Linklater films. TBH, would love to buy the DVD and see an extended version of the film. Given it was filmed over 12 years, must be quite a lot of contextual footage did not get into the theatrical release.

Grand Budapest Hotel was an enjoyable romp. Boyhood was a slow burn but I liked the Ending, especially Arcade Fire in the credits.

I loved Boyhood too. But then I do like gentle ambles of films.

Bird man was surreal. I hate surreal and thus consigned it to the "Mulholland Drive" weird, uncomfortable, crap scrap-heap

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like Boyhood then. Fancied it since it came out but don't really get much time to watch films usually. Looking foreword to a nice relaxing train journey (seats booked).

Well I went with Boyhood in the end. Only problem was that as the train pulled into Euston Station there was still 12 minutes and 44 seconds of the film left! Now I'll need to pay to watch it elsewhere (no other train journeys planned). Need to see the end though as I thought it was a fantastic film and brilliantly acted by all.

I definitely plan on watching the end - might watch it tomorrow. I've got Talktalk tv and can pay to watch it on that. Another one of my favourite films is Before Sunrise and I realised that it has the same director.

^ two sequels (before sunset, before midnight) might be up your street then. I saw Captain fantastic this week, was q good. Moonrise Kingdom I enjoyed v much.

Don't watch Birdman, it's not surreal, it's self-indulgent twaddle. There are far better films to watch. Actually, you'd probably enjoy watching paint dry more. Can you tell I hated this film?

Boyhood was on Netflix a few months ago so should still be there. Lovely film with a fantastic soundtrack

Yeah I loved the soundtrack. Don't have Netfix though.
